Make sure they check that the frame rails aren't bent... Had a friend with a 2012 F150 that got what looked like minor damage to the front, but it bent the frame rails enough to total the truck...
He bought it back and now has a 2012 F150 woods truck...

Not sure what carfax reports, or if any details?? Perhaps someone else may know more. But id all it says is the car was in an accident, that aint much help.

It says "accident on day x in location y" not much more (at least not the last time I used it).

Just and FYI. I had a lady back into the side of my car last winter. Cost $750 to repair. This summer when I was going to trade it in I was told that the "car fax" found it was in an accident and they decided that it was now worth $1500 less. I laughed at them and left. But it made trading in the car next to impossible. Even though I could get the dealers to not deduct the $1500 off the value of the car it lowered the starting point for negotiating how much my trade was worth. I ended up selling it privately and since I owned it outright it wasn't too much of a hassle.

I would bet that it never effected the tax assessment.

Yea, that certainly isnt enough info to make a decision on. How many minor fender benders are taking a $1500 hit on the value of their vehicle??

And in some cases, $1500 might not be enough of a reduction.

I have always thought the same. I've had one or two front end hits that caused $$ damage but the air bags never deployed. Oh well, at least that is something that won't cause extra expense to remedy.

It takes a pretty good one. It isnt so much the speed of either vehicle, but the force of the impact. There is basically a G meter that once a certain threshold is reached, they pop. If front airbags, that "g-meter" is oriented accordingly. So a side impact, no matter how hard, wont set them off. Likewise, a front corner hit takes a harder hit than a full frontal.

With the G meter, IOW, if you hit a brick wall that dont give a bit at 30 MPH, it is a harder hit than a 40MPH collision with a parked car. Cause that parked car will move and absorb some of the G's.

They pretty well have it set (though tons of testing) when to set them off. If they go off, its cause they were really needed.

It sounds like it wasnt bad enough for you and your wife to warrant them going off. And glad you are both okay.

Another thing, and I dont know if it is still true, but in some vehicles they wont deploy unless you are buckled up. Cause the Airbag works in conjunction with the seatbelt pre-tensioner. And without the belt, the airbag may make things worse.

We always use seat belts. It's the law here and it just isn't worth it to get a BS ticket. It's been so long now that it's just second nature to get in and do it.
I think that the damage photos probably make the hit look worse than it actually was. The adjuster will be here soon. Not bad that they're getting someone here just about 24 hours after the accident.
