Any updates? Thx.

Lots of hydraulic fluid, although all suggestions are always welcome.

Seems like the only causes I can think of to cause the behavior are (in order I think most likely)

cylinder is wonky inside (some sort of matter inside or seal deforming or something) and is losing extension
cylinder rod is turning somehow
the lid itself is deforming up/back or the mounting brackets are moving

I'll be out there again tomorrow. I'll mark the rod for rotation, and will mark a dowel for exact length the cylinder rod will extend max. If it does it again (I expect it will) it should be clear which one it is.

Any updates?

No real updates. I loosened the cylinder rod a bunch this time and so the clamp is still closing for now. I believe the cylinder has internal issues that has at least twice shortened it's stroke, but EA wants to wait until its more clear that the cylinder itself is the problem rather than for example being caused by the clamp itself misforming.

With all the season's rain, the new property has gotten pretty soft where I have been working (and a bit sloped) so how much grapple time I can put in will be reduced for a while.

Better than sliced bread! December 29, 2013

I don't often write reviews but I have to make an exception in this case. I can't really begin to tell you all the great things about EA and this product but let me say this. First, Travis was very helpful online answering my questions via chat. The build and delivery was very quick (15 days). And the grapple is amazing! The root grapple did quick work of brush and large logs, some of which were up to 3 feet in diameter. I was able to do 2 weeks of hand clearing of brush and downed trees in only a day and a half on my new undeveloped lake lot thanks to the grapple. I can already tell the grapple will be a life saver, not to mention being much easier on my back. I could go on for a while talking about the product and how great I was treated by EA but hopefully you get the picture. I will certainly recommend the Wicked Root Grapple and EA to everyone I know, in fact, I already have to a neighbor at the lake that ask "what the heck is that thing and where can I get one". :)

Ted, You really have done a good thing. This is a magnificent job of engineering and execution. I can't say enough about how well the grapple works and is just plain tough as nails. Been using now for about a month and I don't have even an issue much less a complaint. Flawless workmanship. Excellent material. Even after a month of running into stuff, we play a game to see how fast we can pull a tee post, it is not as easy as it sounds. good job!!!

We took some trees down today that were close to the house. The grapple was a huge time saver. We just cut the stuff down to a managable size and moved it with the tractor and grapple to keep some of the mess out of the yard. I'll cut it up into firewood later.

We got one log. 24'' on the big end and 15'' on the small end. The estimated weight is 1700 lbs.

Then I picked up this tree.
