Captain Philips: Somali Pirates. Any sailors Here?

It's most unfortunate that we have the technology, but have allowed our hands to be tied behind our backs and merely watch as the world goes to heck!

Here again, I admit my ignorance, but it seems to me that a couple of quad 50's would make mince meat out of one of those small boats.

Most countries control the sale of .50 caliber to the military. You want big guns like that floating around with limited control?

What CONTROL is there now, if the villans already have RPGs?

When are we going to STOP thinking like this? When are we going to grow a back bone again? Maybe decent people have had it good too long and the world needs to decent into chaos, as we don't see the need to defend what we have.

Well, certainly some oversight would be necessary, but I don't consider it an insurmountable problem. Folks who want to purchase guns illegally, and have the Do-Re-Me can get about anything they want, or so I'm told.

I guess, the problems start when you enter someones elses jurisdiction that may have different rules and ideas then your own. I was once on a cargo ship entering US waters and everything was subject to inspection. That was before 911!

Who would police such a thing? The UN doesn't have one iota of integrity as far as I am concerned and I would not want to see it's budget, mandate and beurocracy increased one little bit.

<I think it is a maritime law issue and has to do with laws of the country that you are coming from and going to. I personally think there should be an agreed upon allowance for a reasonable stash of small arms to defend against these attacks.>

 that's the reason for no arms.

In some cases they may have Mercenaries board after entering international waters but they must leave the ship prior to leaving international waters.

I agree wih you comments regarding the UN. The UN is just a platform for the Leaders and Politicians to criticize each others' behavior and disputes. It has become as Worthless as the League of Nations, which the UN replaced.

Nobody minds their own business anymore. Look at Ukraine. Our President is thumping his chest and threatening all kinds of action, sent Sec of State over there to mediate. How stupid is that.

If Cuba had a revolution today and took over their government we'd have troops on the ground before sunset and we'd tell Putin to F off.
