50 hour Hydro Oil for the non believers

Would be nice if they would make up their **** mind!.

On my Last Kubota, is said just change the filters at 50, and I didn't keep it to 400, so I never changed its transmission fluid.

But overall I am still glad I changed the fluid at 50, but that is just me!

When Bobcat came out with their version of the DK models a year after they had the CKs, we noticed very soon this difference in charts from Op manual vs Service Manual. A quick email to Bobcat, they in turned emailed Daedong engineers and answer came back. The omission of the 50 hr. fluid change in service manual was in deed an error. All of our manuals are PDF files online for and the chart was corrected very quickly.
I don't have any idea why Kioti hasn't changed/corrected theirs.

Good to know. See, I knew I was glad I changed fluid at 50:D

Thank you! I've changed my service manual to add the missing bullet. I know I'll probably reach the fifty hour mark later this year, and would probably not have done the transmission fluid, assuming the service manual to be correct. Thanks again!

The Kioti owners manual service table is in interval than clock time. Most autos have service at a particular mileage, this creates confusion, like in the service at 100hr in the Kioti manual is not the service at 100 hour clock time but an 100 hour interval. To do more is not bad just not required by the book.

When I changed mine then oil looked like that pictured. The larger pieces that look like paint were paint in mine. When putting wrench on each of the 3 drain plugs it broke the pain loose from those plated plugs and fell in the drain pan. There was some metal glitter, but I think most of that was from getting brushed off the magnet on the drain plug while removing it. Oil from mine was definitely blackish and smelled slightly burnt. Part of that I contributed to driving through the brakes a few times (not paying attention to the bright red light on the dash), and some of that discoloring and smell could be due to the quality of fluid used to start with. If manufacturer wants you to dump that fluid after first 50 hrs. are they going to spend the $ to put in a top quality fluid to start with?? I don't know, just thinking.
All I can say after changing fluid the HST was a lot more responsive and less apt to go over relief working in same situations as before changing fluid.

Back in the day, car engines came from the factory with "break-in oil." My understanding is that this was intended to accelerate initial wear to seat the parts (e.g. rings). I believe this practice is no-longer used but some manufacturers still recommend against synthetic oil for the first few thousand miles.

Now, not sayin' it's the case, but if our tractors come with "break-in" hydraulic fluid, it would be foolish not to change it at 50 hours if that's what the book says.

By the way, all the books said to change my DK45S hydraulic fluid (and filter) at 50 hours. But one owner's manual said to do it again at 300 hours and a later edition said 400 hours. I suspect this was a policy change but there were several other errors and omissions in both the OM and SM for my machine. In my view, the cost of 10 gal of premium hydro fluid is insignificant compared to even the smallest repair to the transmission or hydraulics.

My last 2 KTM 4 strokes came with Cobra oil for break in. [Don't know if KTM actually calls it that but my dealer does] One thing they specifically tell you is do not do any second or 3rd gear starts because it will warp the clutch plates. They say 3 hours or so on that oil then drain it. I always change the first charge of oil quick in anything new or rebuilt. My tractor got changed at about 5 hours and any new vehicles get changed within 500 miles or so. Overkill yea maybe but oil is cheap and it tells me if there are any issues. On a 427 I built up I was told I did not need a Torrington bearing behind the cam. Ran the engine for a hour or so then dumped the oil. All kinds of sparklies in it. So I pulled the front off of it and the cam was eating into the front of the block. Cut the face down and installed a timing set with a Torrington bearing and that engine is still running down the strip today. So in some cases it does pay to check early. CJ

I learned and practiced the less expensive route, which was to change just the filter, cut it open and look for issues. If the oil was spent, then I'd change that too.

I had the same experience as SSmoxie. My HST was a lot more responsive AND quieter after I changed oil, filter, & cleaned pre-strainer @ 50 hours. And there were wear particles & clutch wear dust in the used oil also. Significant amount of wear particles on the pre-strainer screen.

I am convinced the HST filter gets filled pretty quickly on new tractors due to this evidence in the drain pan. This means the hydraulic flow rate gets reduced substantially early, & the fluid gets hotter (more dumps over pressure relief valve). This is educated deduction, not straight opinion. Any HST I have ever owned exhibited this behavior. CJ sees it on his bike clutch packs too.

Not sure why vehicle auto trans don't seem as bothered? Maybe flow rate is lower, filter is much bigger? They are full of planetary gear set clutch packs.

btw - I like to see what everyone's experience is on this - an HST is an HST, don't care what color tractor it's on - just wanted you guys to know I don't troll  - I look at interesting subjects on the daily posts & try to learn & opine. Don't care the color of your machine!
