Skid steers are more efficient. They're also fun. I suggest one of Bobcat's 700 series from the late 1990s. We have three at a farm I work at, all with over 4000 hours, one approaching 8000. Bulletproof reliable for the first 3000 hours or so, very solid after that. They're old enough to be reasonably affordable now, but it's not hard to find one that still has a lot of life left in it. Avoid John Deere's 200 series, they were Deere's first in house skid steers and have a tendency to blow up the hydraulic systems. I've had first hand experience with a 240 and 250, both of which have required new or overhauled engines before 2000 hours and have required dealer repairs on the hydraulics several times between them.
