Not really an project update, but a new toy for the machine. I ordered one of those Ratchet Rakes. I was just going to make one, but my buddy with the plasma cutter tells me it is on the fritz....and I am not going to cut all those teeth by hand.

I think this will be real handy for dealing with the wild rose bushes and such. And I really want to scrape the Poison Ivy from the trees....some of the vines are pretty darn large.

Not sure how long it will take it to get here....wish I could see one in person, but like the other guy said on the rake thread....I called every Tractor Supply place in KC and none of them had a single example of them to look at.

Now on to a question....with all the digging I have worn some paint off the bucket and backhoe....should I re-paint that to keep it from rusting, or is it some type of alloy that will not rust.

Thanks.

Its up to you on the painting, It just wears off again.. Yes it will rust. If you use your buckets all the time they will stay shiney:) Here is the rules, I use. If it is ding and scrapes on places on the bucket that do not normally touch the ground/material I touch them up periodically. In other words, upper surfaces. But for the locations that normally touch the ground, no, there is no point in messing with it, as it will be gone again very soon. But it is yours, and you can do as you see fit.:D

I spray my bare worn metal with WD-40 and wipe with an oily cloth when I know it will sit long enough to rust, but touch up dings that never will see wear. I keep the WD saturated rag in an old Cool Whip container and reuse.

Short update, digging up stumps/roots close to the surface a bit last night...so far machine has 14.change hours on it. Most of these trees are about the size of your wrist perhaps a tad larger. Pulling up roots is a bit of a pain, it will bust in one place then you have to get off the machine and cut the other end. I did however finally take off the mower deck last night. Came off pretty easy...little bit of a tight squeeze getting it out from between the front and back wheels....but it is off now and I don't have to worry hooking it on a short stump.

Anyway a couple pics of part of the progress last night.

Be careful about that HST fan now that it's exposed.

If you have your loader on when removing the mower, dump the bucket and apply down pressure to lift the front end of the tractor 8-10 inches off the ground AFTER you pull the rear lift link pins on the mower. The deck will slide right out under the front tires with plenty of room.

I have read quite a bit about that but I did not notice it after taking off the deck. I need to poke my head under there and see first hand what everyone talks about.

I have been thinking about some body armor for it, but I really want to check it out first.
