I think I would keep that one to myself.

The driver was making time. He either didn't know they came off the truck or was worried about liability. I was watching for the truck to return as I was picking the tools up but he never did. I sure wasn't going to leave them in a pile and hope he came back for them. Craftsman tool will work for me, not the best tools around but I have seen worse. It was a pretty decent find.

About five years ago I found a brand new handy man jack in the ditch. It was one of the newer ones with a pipe handle rather than wood. I already had one but now I have two.

I took them to a Sears to exchange them due to rust. It ended up being over $600 worth of tools..

I know if you break some Craftsman tools you can get a free repair/replacement. Are you saying you exchanged them for new ones because they were rusty.?

All the new craftsman tools unfortunately say made by communist, I mean made in china.
They have taken a huge hit to quality and finish
I've switched to SK, for most of my stuff I have some snapon although some of the snapon tools have no country of origin listed on them

Yes sir, some were rusty and others had chips in the metal. The ones that were rusty were hard to read the size. No questions asked, they just grab a replacement. My friend dug up a craftsman ratchet on a job site. It was rust and covered in mud. He cleaned it enough to see the Craftsman name and took it in. They exchanged it.

So you picked up Craftsman tools on the road after you saw them fall off the owner's truck. You them took them to Sears and exchanged them as if you bought them new? You should be ashamed. How can Sears stay in business when people like you take advantage of them? How would you feel if it were your business?

Sorry. The warranty says:

Craftsman hand tools are guaranteed forever. If any Craftsman hand tool ever fails to give complete satisfaction, return it to Sears for free repair or replacement.

In other words, if the tool falls off your truck on the interstate and gets chipped, and that results in you not having complete satisfaction, bring it on back and we'll replace it. The warranty has absolutely no restrictions, no questions asked. Nothing is sketchy about this. If Sears doesn't like it, they can change the warranty.

They go to great lengths to promote that forever for any reason part & it is a major selling point. Its one of the main reasons I generally stick with Craftsman tools. They factor it into their prices & business model. I know people who have been doing that for over 20 years.

What he did was dishonest, they weren't even his tools. Note the words "RETURN IT TO" in the warranty. He did not buy them, so he can't "return" them. If the tools fell off the back of a truck they were abused, and Sears should not have to replace them, regardless. If someone steals tools they should not be able to take them to Sears for replacement.

People steal tools and take them to stores and ask for a refund all the time. These things drive the cost of tools up. In another thread this same guy says he goes to the post office to get "I just moved" packets in which Lowes has 10% off coupons. He then uses them as if he just moved. People need to have some integrity.

I beg to differ. The warranty never says that the person who is returning the tool must be the original purchaser. Nor does it say anything about abusing the tools. It says, "If the tool fails to satisfy FOR ANY REASON." Any reason at all.

And near as I can tell, he did the service of cleaning the tools up off the road where they could have been a hazard. If the original owner had stopped to pick them up, then you might have a point, but as far as I'm concerned, they're as legitimately his as if he'd bought them.
