Which used tractor? G3038 or R3039

I thought I'd have something useful to add, but everybody's pretty much summed it up. Price is close, both have warranty left, and a difference of 350 hours really isn't much at all....like a car with 2000 miles vs 5000 miles....both virtually brand new. Both models are proving to be super reliable, but the 3039 has many lovable features that the G doesn't, unless you spend a bunch of upgrade money, and some that you just can't get at all on the G, like the nicer 4 cyl engine, draft control, tilt steering, etc.

Thanks John, actually that was me that called your phone several times yesterday. I watched your excellent video review and wanted to ask some questions and your opinion on some things but then told myself I already knew the answer and this just confirms it! :)

I think my next issue is I'm going to need part numbers on all filters & fluids :)

I have enjoyed this thread, especially after having test drove the G3038 and R4041 (both gear) today. One thing I'm wondering is if the R3039 will have the same cockpit feel as the 4041, maybe Prodaddy can answer that? My dealer here in NC didn't have one on the lot, and salesman said it was "in between" these two models in size. The 4041 was sure superior in feel and comfort, I was a little cramped on the 3038, being 6'0" and 280lbs (I know getting rid of the excess personal counterweight will help ;)
I grow vegetables and really like the "creeper" speed of both of these machines in 1st gear at low throttle....I measured off the distance traveled in 1 minute and calculated the speed, .25mph. I was quoted 16,800 for the 3038 and 19,800 for the 4041. I think the R3039 was maybe 18,800. The R3039 weight specs are not the same as the R4041, so that is confusing. Not the same frame? The G3038 is more in my budget, but if I flip my 1958 JD 520, I can justify the R4041 purchase as it will do all that I need it to (plow, disc, till, transplant, flail mow, etc). Anyone care to chime in on the differences? Budget constraint is only temporary, I'm really tempted to buy the R4041 and get into the 21 century. That 4cyl engine was so smooth compared the tin can and marbles in the G3038, even though that ran pretty nicely, just louder.

The 3039 has a slightly smaller frame than the 4041, but some people think the operator's station has a bit more room. I can't remember at this point which had more space, but if there is a NH or Case dealer nearby, you cold look at a Farmall 35B, or Boomer 35 to get an idea of layout.

I can tell you the 'feel' of the G3033 vs the R3039 was night and day difference from the drivers seat.

I will say, that my dad has a hard time with his 'clown' feet boots, and space between the pedals, and 'rear' floorboard.

Now, if your budget issue is only temporary.... I would certainly just go with the R4041. The only reason I didnt, was I couldnt make that budget jump. I was maxed out at the 3039...

Mangus,
Thanks for the info....I'm originally from up there in B-lo area, I'm guessing your tractor is getting a good snow day or two in this winter lol! I also think the difference is night and day, but the price diff on the 3039 to the 4041 was quoted to me as only 1K, which surprised me. Big diff in the weight in the 3039 and 4041. 3039 is essentially the same weight as the 3038. What are you using yours for?

I use mine mostly around the yard, and for moving hay (and cleaning up) for the animals. (cows, goats, ducks, chickens)

I have also been clearing some trees and overgrowth from the property, as well as plowing/discing/planting dads field for his summer 'crop' of sweet corn, tomatos, etc.

Agree. The R3039 ergonomics were way better than the G3033 for me.

I too streched the budget to get into the R3039H. No regrets in spending the extra money. The R impresses me every time I get it out. It's a real work horse.

Thanks guys for all the input! I talked with a bunch of people and decided on the R3039. It was delivered today and I must say it is pretty sweet! Didn't get a chance to mess with it much as it is sleeting/snowing but no accumulation on the roads :( I was kind of wanting to use it to clear snow as an excuse to use it!
