After suggesting 4shorts make one for his Bx. I thought I would experiment with different ideas for my lever control in my cab.
Here is my first attempt at it. I wanted close to the size of the factory rubber knob as I could, but yet have the third function switches built in right on it as a one piece.
The smallest quality switch I found was couple motorcycle horn / starter buttons. All I had to do was drill and tap a couple of 5/16 24 holes to mount the switches, I tapered the bottom of the control to be as minimal as possible so they had to be at just the right angle to not be in the way of the Fel stick the knob goes over. I was able to house everything in a one piece turned and polished unit.
I like the feel of the switch deck against the side of my palm in normal fel use, Before I had to hang onto the shifter now I just rest my hand on it wrap my fingers around the knob with the buttons on the opposite side out of the way. It feels good in my hand. When I want the buttons I just drop my thumb down.
I buffed it with my buffer system I made 31 years ago. Buffed right inside my shop (yes inside the shop) with just a flick the switch and buff away. The built in filter system and plenty of light lets the operator see what has to be done while keeping the work area and operator clean. It has plenty of power because the buffs are smaller in size. The buffer cannot be stalled with a 6 or 4 inch buff. Unlike what you may have been told by others (well one person). Done buffing flick the switch off and walk away, no mess, no fuss.
