Ground Hogs (aka Wood Chucks) Digging in Pole Barn

Back in the 60's, we used a product, which was a small cylinder that was 2% cyanide, if I remember correctly. We would fill in one hole, light the fuse on one of these bombs, throw it down the other hole, and take the loader and quickly fill in that hole. We had to be careful not to be downwind, and if we saw any smoke rising from the ground we just filled the hole in with, we would add more until the smoke would stop. I can still get these, but they are charcoal without the cyanide. It still works. We use them close to the buildings, and any area we are not comfortable shooting. I've used more than one in a hole that I knew had an entire family living in it. I also prefer to keep the .22 or pistol grip crossbow nearby in case somebody takes exception to having their day ruined.

Definitely "woodchucks" in this area. The only time I hear "groundhogs" is Early February.

If the area is equipment accessible, flex pipe from exhaust to hole :). Diesel therapy...

With the addition of a tarp, that also works well for a skunk in a live trap...

This sounds like the best idea yet -- how much pipe? I can park my tractor right on top of a few of the holes.

I would put 4'-6' into the hole, then pack around it with dirt...

Wood chuck in MA, ground hog in VA.

I dispatch my troublesome rodents with a 22 cal Benjamin Marauder air rife. Silent. Powerful. No worries about startling horses.

And I only shoot the groundhogs when they're on open ground. Patience is the key.
