For you guys running the 299D XHP as a mulcher. Do you have the optional rooftop cooler? If not, do you have hydraulic oil temp issues? Considering a couple of these machines. Don't want to put a cooler up top to get knocked off if it's not needed.

I have the roof top cooler on one of mine. It has not overheated while mulching but it did while we were mowing, the roof top cooler helps but the alarm would still come on. I believe it is a sensor problem not an actual heating problem, we have checked temp of the oil in the tank and it was well below the alarm stage. The other two we run have not had any issues while mulching or mowing, we do not have roof top coolers on those.

Thanks. What temperature range (outside, not the machine) do you have there in the summer. We get mid to upper 90's and have never had a problem with our T320 while mulching.

We get in the same range mid to upper 90's. Its never happened when mulching, just when mowing. We used an infrared heat gun, pointed into the hydraulic tank and the oil was between 180 to 190 when the alarm was sounding. That's what makes me think it's a sensor or the parameters are set a little to low. The other two run the same but with no alarm. I don't believe they have a heat issue at all, just wanted to let you know.

On my 299D XHP without the rooftop cooler the temp gauge averages 2/3s of the gauge on average regardless of outside temps. With the rooftop cooler running the temp gauge typically stays around halfway. The only time my warning lights/alarm has sounded was due to the back door being blanketed with broom straw/Stick weed seeds restricting the air flow to the cooler, Hence the need for a reversing fan to purge the trash out.

Make sure the fan speeds are optimal. I know the D series is different than my C was, but the C series software didn't let the fan get up to a high enough rpm to cool effectively.
