Houston, we have a problem...

Warmed up nicely this past weekend, thought I'd take the new Farmall 55a out and get used to her. Started backing her out of the shed, and heard a loud pop followed by a steady stream of Hydraulic fluid shooting out the right side of the tractor right at the front tire. Blown hose on the new loader was my first thought, but after taking a quick look I realized that wasnt it. Turns out this is what happened:



I guess the old adage if it's going to break it will do so right away was right. The casting where the Hydraulic pump attaches cracked big time. Now the questions is how far does the dealer have to go to fix it. Dealer was all kinds of apologetic and was right out to get it today. Glad I wasn't way out in the pasture when it happened!

Ouch that sucks. At least it happened under warranty but I know it sucks that it broke before you even got to enjoy it any. By the way does it have the Iveco engine in it or is it the Shibaru or how ever ya spell it lol

From the picture I would say that the whole casting that the pump mounts to will have to be replaced. If this is driven off of the flywheel I would expect tractor would have to be split.

My biggest question is, what caused this, bad casting, excessive side load on the pump, etc..

Probably bad casting and poor quality control at the factory.

Everyone has an opinion, here is mine.. a tooth came off of one of the gears and got caught between another gear and the casting, and POP, it pushed out the casting. Dynamic self destruction.

Now that is just too logical, can't be had to be something unheard of before and exotic.

Man that sucks! I'm gonna have to go home and check mine out! Hope this isn't a common problem for these tractors! Because mine is out of warranty
