New owner - wife hid owners manual. Please tell me these do have a neutral position and I am too dumb to find it - then tell me where it is. I can't believe they would make a tractor without it as it is almost impossible to hook up some pto shafts as well as dangerous without it being in neutral (only one switch between you and manglement); but it is not obvious to me that it even has one.

Just the yellow on / off switch. I would suggest shutting tractor down when hooking up to the PTO as the manual recommends.

That is cheap. Can't believe I never checked when I bought it and just assumed (yeah, I know) it would go into neutral. I probably would have looked at a different tractor if I had of known.
How do they expect a person to turn the shaft for alignment when the implement can't be turned? I just sold a 2004 Mahindra that had neutral which made it very easy to hook up - and safe without having to kill a diesel engine.

It's a PTO brake, so it's considered "extra safe" by the safety folks. Almost all of the new tractors seem to have them now. Yes, it's a pain. Some folks have modified a crescent wrench to fit the splines of the PTO shaft, which allows you to turn it by hand. Other folks use an overrunning clutch instead. I've been meaning to buy one of the cheap female PTO shaft extensions, and weld a short handle to it...same concept as the crescent wrench, but cheaper.

Great idea! Think I will have to do that.
I spent 30 min getting a rototiller shaft on. Finally had to take the shaft completely out of the rototiller, put it on the tractor, then slide it back into the shaft on the rototiller. Difficult to turn rototiller shaft for alignment. A simple neutral would have immediately solved the problem - and I gave that up to get this newer tractor. Newer not always better. Although everything else seems to be really nice - the engine is smooth. I cut 35 acres and plowed then rototilled a large garden in 22 hrs.

Believe me, I've cussed a little myself lining up the PTO shaft on my mower (rotary cutter is easier)! I just keep forgetting to buy the female adapter to fix up....gotta do that soon.

Glad it's working out for you otherwise....sometimes the safety nannies get silly.

The new Massey has a neutral position for the PTO shaft. Didn't realize it until I noticed the PTO spin freely when hooking up the grinder. Almost thought something was broken until I realized I have a lever for that.

I wouldn't call it a must have, as I've lived without it on my previous tractors ... but, it was nice, to be sure.

PTO neutral would be great, but the idea with the female adapter is a good fix. The biggest problem I have is that the pto guard does not hinge so you can move it out of your way. A real pain when you have an implement that sits close. Other than that I love my U5020

Yeah, I don't know why all PTO shields aren't hinged....it's not like it would cost much at all. I may eventually cut mine off and weld hinge tabs on it.

Great idea on the hinge. Sometimes you just have to ask "What were the engineers thinking?"
I
have been experimenting with my newfound NO FREAKIN NEUTRAL???? pto setup. Best results so far is to take the shaft completely out of the implement, put it on the tractor, then use a wrench to slightly turn the implement for alignment, then insert back into the implement.
