Fresh figs are a little hard to find, and I love'em. I also like fig preserves, and my mother used to also grind up figs to make preserves and add the dry strawberry jello to it so all the kids thought it was strawberry preserves. The strawberry flavored preserves was good, but I prefer the original fig flavor.

A friend of mine used to have a fig tree in her front yard that fruited every year. The figs were amazing--what little we got before the birds got them, anyway. I would never have said that I was "fig lover", but they were pretty good.

Your tractor is too big if the tires extend beyond your property lines.

In 1984 I bought a run down cottage in the middle of the city with a very old San Jose Mission Fig tree that was horizontal... the trunk just was about waist height.

I was going to take the sad excuse for a tree out and the neighbor told me the old fellow that was born in the house in 1910 parents had taken a cutting from a tree planted by the Padres that founded the California Missions and the fruit was outstanding.

To make a long story short... the tree is still there and has probably 100 offspring I've given to family and friends.

Mom planted one in her garden and makes about $600+ selling the figs at the local market...

You can always cut the trees later if need be...

I like figs...I need one of those cuttings, two actually. Yup, I'm gonna plant some fig trees too. Thanks for the idea.

Do they still brew beer in Tumwater?

If you're primarily using the backhoe for stump removal, or considering getting a dozer in to deal with the trees/ stumps, I would consider getting an excavator in to push the trees over. Much easier process than cutting and having to remove stumps. The excavator can push them over, then you cut the stump off, then have the excavator bury the stumps or pile em to dry and burn. I've taken out stumps with my 32 hp tractor backhoe, and taken out stumps with my 30,000 lb excavator, and I have to say pushing them over is the way to go. I scrape the stump with the ex teeth and drop it a few times to remove all the dirt you can, unless burying.
Thanks for your service, and congrats on the retirement. I retired 8 years ago......well at least from the military......lol.

Sadly the old Olympia brew house has been vacant for about a decade... it was the backbone and major employer in the area.

My understanding is that it was bought for the distribution it had and not the brewery.

Over the years there were several plans to make beer and even bottle water... remember it's the water in tumwater and those pesky artesians!

The plans all failed and took down a lot of people that stretched all the way to the SF Bay Area...

The park and visitor amenities at the brewery were beautiful. I used to stop there just to relax and have lunch when passing through. Oly was one of my favorite beers when I was attending ASU.
