Recently purchased a Gravely 12 hp Professional two wheel tractor; probably one of the last ones built, but there is no model or serial #'s on the machine. It has only 250 hours on it. I was checking fluids via dipstick which revealed a foamy green oil in the transmission. A downloaded manual and one dealer I spoke to said it should be 10-30 motor oil. I drained it thinking there might be water in the oil only to find that the oil is definitely not motor oil I'm used to seeing, it was green and it's consistency reminds me of Red line synthetic high performance gear oil (which is blue not green) used in auto gearboxes in performance cars. Now I'm thinking I shouldn't have drained it. Does anyone know if they changed the oil spec in later years? If so what should it be. Thanks!
