U.S. States Most And Least Likely To Survive The Zombie Apocalypse

This is all fun and no hard feelings. BUT what States put Obama back in office and sucking up taxpayers hard earned money for biscuits and gravy.
Millions more hanging out, free food, free house, and spend all day talking on there free Obama phone.
Trust me it did not happen from the deep south. We like to work and earn or biscuits and gravy here. Once worked for and taxes paid we have no problem with throwing them any way we want to, or just dropping on the the ground. Because we put in a hard 8 hours to earn that right.
Just different from what you may think

Ah me, a sad day when I have to supply grammar, spelling, punctuation, nouns, etc, in an effort to comprehend a post.

I hate to tell you this, but considering Connecticut's gun laws, I'd be tempted to say that you've already lost to the Zombies running your state government.

Unfortunately, we have our share in New Hampshire.

Oh, we have lots of guns, but not so much use for them.
It's near impossible to discharge a round without doing collateral damage.
A scatter gun is probably the best choice if you are inclined to make all that racket.
We do our best work with a blade; close in and quiet.
It's more personal that way - you can smell their fear.

I'll tell you one thing; ain't no zombie gonna git past Trinity Texas or Hugo Oklahoma, no matter what color you use.

My humble opinion to the redness of the Southern area of the country is that one of the metrics was based on registered weapons. Well everyone knows that there are vast arsenals in the South that AREN'T registered. I think you would be amazed at the firepower that would surface in the event of any hostile invasion.
Another metric was obesity and I would dare say that as you venture out of the urban areas the rate of obesity declines significantly and us small town and rural folks of the South would put up a good fight. Plus the Zombies would be so fattened up on the city dwellers that by the time they got to us they'd be easy targets.
I would also imagine that with the farm equipment down here much damage could be done. Think what an 8 row corn or cotton picker and a 30ft soybean combine head would do when it comes to damage. Then there's those high row crop sprayers whose tanks could be filled with gas for mass immolation of Zombies.
We would do much better than this map suggests.

Excellent post. I agree 100%. Also, irrigation systems could be modified to dispense flammable liquids.

Clearly, the person who chose the 11 metrics failed to account for the defensive capabilities offered by agriculture.

Additional metrics should include (a) the proportion of each state's land area devoted to row crops (corn, soybeans, wheat, cotton, etc.) and (b) the proportion of each state's land area that is under irrigation.

Let's see how Maine fares then.;)

alright !!!! ... zombies like BRAINS , since there are none up here in Canada ( just watch any news cast about our politicians) and it's plain to see that the zombies would starve to death ( again) if they headed north of the border ......

the cities might offer up a snack or two but the majority would be passed by and assumed to be one of their own already.

The rest of us rurals are far apart and few. So not worth the effort.

That's a good theory about all the guns, but what would really happen? Country folks would be headin' toward their gun sheds and notice their okra needs picking. Nothing, not even zombies, interferes with the okra the way I hear it. Or, they would grab a gun and head out the door only to trip over their six dogs on the front porch. Probably shoot themselves in their own legs.

And what about those combines and corn pickers? No real Southerner would think of doing battle against zombies without the Confederate Flag painted on their machines, a copy of their favorite Alabama album playing, a suitcase 30-pack of Bud Lights on ice in the cooler, and five tins of Kodiak. You have all that stuff ready to go? I bet not, so you maybe ain't as prepared as you think.

That's how the whole zombie defense plan could just fall apart down South. Wouldn't be the first time the South was done in by over self-confidence either.

This is why Maine is a survivor on that map!:

The Walking Dead To Film Live Episode In Maine
"Lincoln admitted after the big announcement. While I love doing the show, it can become quite monotonous after a time. The rush of doing a live broadcast with real Zombies coming at me?ow that is every actor's dream. I just hope I don't become so giddy that I muddle it all up by falling back into my British accent.

As for those live Zombies, AMC plans to film in the North Woods where the Zombie population is not as dense and can be easily controlled by Maine Zombie Hunters and Maine Zombie Census Bureau Agents, who will always be just off camera to ensure that the actors are never in danger. I am {bleeped} stoked about coming up here to not only do the show live, but to also kill real {bleeped} Zombies, Norman Reedus, aka fan favorite Daryl Dixon told me excitedly. You can bet your sweet {bleeped} that I will be spending a ton of time working on my crossbow skills between now and when we return to film. This is why I became an actor!

AMC and the State of Maine will to do their best to keep the exact location of the shoot a secret, but it's going to be impossible to keep the date from anyone with access to an episode guide. Mainers are asked to be respectful, to keep in mind that it will be a live shoot, and to remember that Zombies will be in the area and it's likely that the lights and noise of the production might attract a large herd. As a result, anyone who does come to watch should make sure they are properly armed.
