Looking at purchasing the new 900 model, for the members who have purchased one what are your impressions of the vehicle. Had a 4010 mule until last year. Shouldn't of sold it. Let me know your opinions of the new 900. I've read about the wheel problems already.

Thanks in advance.

2014 RTV-X900 Worksite Orange & ATV Tires delivered last week.
Initial observations after a few hours and miles

  • Shifter is extremely hard to move between L H N R. Takes a lot of muscle to move it. This might have been a deal breaker when researching competition.
  • Shifter can become stuck in reverse when stopping on incline. Engine won't restart if stuck in reverse, needed another piece of equipment to take pressure off reverse linkages before shifter would move and restart engine.
  • Dump bed must be raised to check oil, therefore starting engine before checking oil.
  • Factory supplied battery is very small, doubt it would have enough power to heat glow plugs and still start motor in freezing weather.
  • Engine seems to labor and slow down on inclines, let off & full on gas and resumes original speed.
  • Seating is comfortable.
  • H & L ranges are appropriate for most use. Not fast, but strong.
  • Good storage under both seats. Glove box with door. Good instrument panel.
  • After 10 years of making this machine, I'm surprised on some of the obvious negatives, especially the shifter resistance.
  • $15,000 got me a RTV-X900-W-A, factory sprayed on bed liner, Plastic bed insert (V5229), Glass (VC5025) (not poly) wind shield, Hard (VC5011) (plastic) roof & delivery.

Thanks for the reply, have you talked to your dealer about the shifter? I test drove the 900 I am receiving, it shifted hard also. He said he would look at that. I purchased the 900 general purpose.
accessories I purchased were
Turn signals
Heavy duty front suspension and struts
Metal canopy
Tempered glass windshield
Multiple accessories wiring harness
Cv joint guards front and rear
Bed liner
extended dip stick

Should be getting it this week.

I had a 2011 rtv 900 worksite edition for one year and loved it, it shifted nice, pulled great, I just really liked it but had to sell it to get my tractor. Before I bought it though I drove a rtv 1100 and that one had the shifter problem and also when you put it in four wheel drive you fought to get it out again for some reason. Funny how it differs from one machine to the next.

Those of you with the stiff shifter are you stepping on the brake? Kubota added a valve that would release the hydrostatic pressure when the brake was pushed to aid in shifting.

generally the x-series shifts easier than the old 900 in my experience. As was said, make sure your breaking while shifting.

Mine shifted hard just as you described and would stick on an incline. My dealer came out and adjusted the relief valve which is right on the back of the machine right under the tailgate. Made a huge difference. It wasnt pushing the valve in far enough.

Response from my dealer sales rep:

  • Kubota service manager said to give the shift linkage time to break in. He has noticed that with time it will shift easier.
  • Another point he made, is that the brake pedal has to be depressed all the way in order for the dump valve to actuate, and there needs to be a minimum of a 3 second delay before pressure is released
  • Being a hydrostatic drive ... You have to stay in tune with the engine, meaning, if you hear the engine laboring, back off the pedal a little which allows the engine to rev, and at the same time backs off the ground speed. if the engine still labors on the incline, then shift to low range.
Time will tell.
