also, a good direct vent 40 gal water heater can cost $750.00 wholesale. was the 1750 bid for one of these??? or just a chepo h depot special??

She called the plumber just before 2 pm on a Friday and he was gone by the time she got home at 5:20 pm

I'm guessing not more than 2 hours...

The job was actually $1700 for cash... and 3% additional for credit/debit... so $1751.00

He also told her anything after 12 noon Friday is charged at the weekend rate

Was the invoice broken down for parts/labor?
seems like that would have to be about $400-$500/hr!

GE 40 gallon conventional heater with 36,000 Btu... same California Model Home Depot sells for $400 +/-

I only use Bradford White Gas Heaters and buy 4 or 5 a year...

The invoice said furnish and install new 40 gallon 9 year manufacturer warranted GE gas water heater and haul away existing... parts and labor $1700 plus 3% for credit/debit card.

Permit if required owner responsibility...

Sad thing for her is it would have cost her $500 total if I did it and my plumber friend does it for $800

Just another case of a panicked housewife while her husband is away on business...

Anyway you look at it... she paid more than double the going rate...

At this point... she is too embarrassed and her husband had to let it go because she felt so stupid when he got home...

Happy wife... happy life... and moma wasn't happy that she had been duped.
