I have a 30hp Kubota B7800 and need to transport firewood.

I am planning on using the steel crates that my local tire shop
sells. These crates house the large plastic containers full of tire foam.
They measure 48" x 46" x 39" high and are moved with pallet forks.

My question is which style pallet fork will I need to lift and haul that
size container, and the combined weight of container and the wood cargo?

FEL forks or forks mounted on the 3 point hitch?

Depending on the greenness of the firewood, you could easily have a 2,500 pound load if full. I'm not 100% positive, but I don't think a B7800 will lift it.

Given a choice between 3 PH forks or FEL I would think because of your limited lift capacity, you would be better off with the 3PH style.

I do think square1 is correct. A full crate is going to be way beyond lift capacity.

Any chance you have a pic if the crate? I don't think I've ever seen anything like that, but it sounds interesting.

Gmanbart-I did not buy them yet. A friend who has a Bobcat moves and stores all of his wood in these.
You can probably find them on craigslist for sale if you do a search. Looks like a large wire basket housing a large plastic jug.
If I find a photo I will post it for you. They are for sale here at the tire shop for $25. Great deal!

Neighbor uses 3 pt style on his 8N for the same purpose works well. Your loader probably won't lift enough for you to be happy.

I am sure you have seen these travelling on 18 wheelers. They are called TOTE TANKS and are usually 275 gallon in size. I have one that I am using for diesel storage. A chemical company close by gives them away free for the taking. They are recyclable but the cost to transports outweighs the cost of the container so they just stack up at businesses that use a lot of them. The one I have had a liquid resin in it that they used as a base for floor tiles. I had to clean about a gallon of the clear resin out with my pressure washer and final rinse with some gasoline to cut the remaining resin.
Lots of them for sale on Craigslist for $50- $100 but for me, $10 worth of fuel to go pick one up is all that is required.

Yeah you will have to use the 3 point with that kind of weight.

Ideally, get one that you can hitch at either end.
Adding 2 "ears" with lift pins & a center clevis to a FEL type is a simple job if you can weld.
Just have to be carefule where you attach them so it will still fit up to your FEL.
I have a FEL model that I cobbled to fit my 3pt.
Now I need to cobble it to fit my FEL, which it never did.
But it works great for moving pallets of cut & split firewood on the 3pt.
I really want to get it mountable to the FEL so I can use it to move brush piles.
