How does one carry 32 foot floor joists when by yourself?
I knew the ROPS was good for something.
These things are no fun to handle all by yourself!

We got 12 joists done today. Not too bad for a couple of old guys.

Hey Bo,
Great thread. I appreciate the time you are taking to share your experiences. How are you moving your joists? I was guessing you would rig a sling and move them into place with your telehandler.

If I was alone I would do the sling thing, but with a guy helping me, we just slide them across and stand them up. I definitely needed the Alleve this evening!

24 of 25 joists are in. I'll have to do some fabricating and make some headers for the center joist. My engineer was daydreaming that day and sketched 12 inch support logs standing upright between 16 inch centers. Problem is, the logs are 24 inch in diameter. That won't fit in 16 inch space.

My engineer said he wanted 5/8 gypsum board under the insulation above my crawl space. Why? I don't know.
I talked the inspector into letting me rip it into 15 9/16 strips and just laying it on the bottom ledges of the TJIs instead of screwing full sheets from underneath. I got that about half done today. 4X8 sheets of anything is getting to be too much for this old man.
I took pictures but they are on my iPhone and I'm sitting out by the fire with my iPad. I'm just too durn tired to get up and get my phone.

Tomorrow I will have my subfloor inspection and then I can begin nailing down the OSB.

Can't say I've ever heard of that. It is usually used as a fire stop or slowing barrier, such as in attached garages. In that use, the exposed lower edge of the TJI's would not pass inspection here.

Is is not going to rain before you get the roof on it? Seems like rain would be the end of exposed gypsum with or without the OSB subfloor.
