Over two yrs, i have had a proplem when mowing. when cold pto engages intell it get warm. stop to dump grass. wont engage. cools down. will engage intell it gets warm, just put in a new jd clutch. still having problem. 500hrs on tractor. checked elect plugs. battery voltage. Is there a coil thats controlls the clutch?

Huh... well, there goes THAT theory~! IF you hadn't mentioned a new clutch, I'd have suggested that first. I GUESS that it's not IMPOSSIBLE for you to have a bad clutch pack - but with you just replacing it, unlikely...
Can you hook up parallel leads to the clutch electrical plug to measure voltage THERE, AT THE CLUTCH, while you're running?

Try bypassing the wires going to the clutch. Jerry rig some wires and a simple switch directly to the battery. Even though it acts like its a temperature related issue it could be a loose or broken wire/switch/connector/ground that acts up occasionally. I have had this type of thing stump me for days. Once a person thinks they know what the problem is, it is sometimes hard to step back and look at other possibilities. Happens to me all the time.

good luck

I have a X740 that will get hot from mowing and the PTO kicks out even though I pull the PTO switch before I back up. I found the problem was grass packed all over where it shouldn't be. It is water cooled and I have a temp gauge, but maybe you have a something plugged up causing it to heat up enough to where the electronic system kicks out the PTO. Just a thought. :confused3:
