Did we just lose Friendly Politics?

If I understand this properly then, the phrase "I was not friendly" will appear below the offender's name? Guess that's like being busted to Private Worst Class! :drink: Hope that's the price of probationary reinstatement.

Interesting observation.

It only works if you accept the redefinition of the word "vicious" into a particular, specific paradigm ... where saying some words (albeit harsh) to someone is somehow as bad, or functionally worse, than advocating the things I remarked on earlier ... which you yourself remarked on ...

You know: There's "vicious" ... and then there's V-I-C-I-O-U-S ...

I was going to suggest the following for a mandatory avatar as penance for all those booted - but I really like my current one - and I didn't know how it might be taken and didn't want to be seen as trivializing what is actually a fairly serious matter:

This thread isn't in "Friendly Politics" ... that's what they - or should I say "we" (et tu Brutus ?) - were removed from ...

As for the political discussion and the accusations of racism and other nonsense - those charges generally require some pretty sensitive and tortured processing by the accuser.

I sorta had that opinion myself on certain accusations that some were leveling ... probably not exactly the same ones as you tho' ...

I have no problem if TBN deletes the political threads - but - I find it somewhat silly. I would imagine most participants on TBN are adults, so limiting speech to protect those with a chip on their shoulder is like putting everyone back in grade school.

Solution - remove the word "Friendly" and let it run. There is nothing more disingenuous than expecting issues of faith and politics, life changing, world changing, revolution causing, to be "Friendly." I accept those of polar opposite ideology to my own will insult me in order to protect their territory ... So what? They should appreciate my right to respond in kind. Big deal. Block the ones you don't want to read and just move on.

America is in a crisis and, regardless of the words used, it needs to be discussed. Limiting speech will only push people to other levels of expression at some point.

My preference would be the discussions be "no holds barred" ... but I'm really fine with it either way ...

The parts that are actually of real value - that is: the fundamental underlying principles and ideas - can be addressed just fine under either paradigm.

Indeed it is (a matter of opinion) ... one man's saint is another man's sinner ...

There does have to be some red lines though ... simply because there are potential liabilities that must be considered.

If so, and I agree totally, then why not be gentlemen and act like one? Some of the participants here come across as seriously nasty people.
People who seem to enjoy the insulting more than the discussion, because they usually don't answer the question, they just belittle the prior poster.

Lots of posts about being adults. Clearly that has very, very different meanings to many of us.

what can't happen is someone posting an opinion that disagrees with another poster and then the claim "you're attacking me" comes up.
Attacking? No. Disagreeing. But disagreeing without insults, without scorn. Has to work equally on both sides of the argument, and it's amazing how many members have opined "but you do it too".

Most of us don't want FP to be a moshpit. About six of you do. Therein lies the problem.
The insults and the ad hominem attacks have to be reduced to a much lower level; unrealistic to think they will disappear.

Sometimes I don't want to open the FP threads when they pop up saying something is new. It really has been like going into an unfriendly place.
And that sure wasn't the sign on the door. I'm admittedly more thin skinned than some of you and maybe I should just stay out of FP.
