New house, need opinions on garage.

The house I grew up in was built in 1958 and had a car port attached to the house with a porch...
It was not a garage but was great for getting groceries in and out of the rain...
My current home was built in 1952 and does not have a car port or garage but we ended up putting in a metal car port...
You will like the garage no matter where it goes...
My only suggestion would be to build everything on 1 floor...
As you age steps are not your friend...

I'd put the garage in the back, 24' or so from the back door, then a roofed breez-way with drive through parking. Circle drive around garage and back to main driveway. Similar to this photo of a friend place in Colorado.

Bought a new house last year without a garage, something I said I'd never do again here in the great white north...View attachment 370642
Added a 24 x 32 with storage above. Fits the truck, HRH's subaru, the tractor, two bikes, and the snow blower. Def need a barn now!

HRH..... New one for me and had to look it up. I like.

Nice, esp. with the loft doors like that !

You're right....... there is definitely mission creep there........ The chances of hearing a guy say "Darn, I built my garage too big !" is about the same as a lady saying "I have too much closet space !".

Open, but functional design (love drive-thru), that also looks really good.... doesn't get better than that !

In final planning phase of new house. Front of house will face South. Back will face north and have large back porch overlooking bottom and future lake. Because of location of driveway , house pad, and floor plan, garage needs to be on west end of house. My wife adamant that she does not want entry to garage visible from front of house. This would mean garage needs to open to the west. Only problem is that almost all of our hard blowing rain comes from the west/ north west. We have been thinking of a detached garage to the west of the house that would open east toward the house. Only stipulation here is that there be a roof over the open space between garage and house.

Do you have strong feelings about garage designs? Any and all input welcomed! Thanks

If you have any sense of self preservation, do as the wife says. That pretty much sums up the design.
