So far today I have wasted an hour and a half, and 45 minutes of that time was spent on hold as I tried to inform Frontier that my DSL service was not working....the very first person I contacted should have been aware of the issue but instead knew nothing and transferred my call to someone who should have known something but didn't, and the third person was a supervisor who could only give me generic answers "yeah we know about the problem..." etc. but couldn't give me an estimate when service would be restored.

It truthfully amazes me why a telecommunications provider can be so clueless and worthless when it comes to providing customer service. And I really envy those members who are able to get a provider who actually delivers something besides lip service.

Well, we have ATT and I'll be darned if I can get any human being on the phone. The phone line was down due to a storm and I tried for days to get someone from ATT to come and pull the wire back up. Finally, I reached someone on the phone (not from the US). Gave them my phone number and address. The guy then asks "is that East or West"? I say, "East or West of what"? Silence. Then he says "OK, we will fix". Well, not suprisingly, no one ever showed.

The electric company came by one day and fixed the ATT wire.

So, I will challenge your assumption that Frontier is the most worthless landline phone service provider. My vote goes to ATT.

Hi JD, And welcome to the world of high tech telecommunications. I think the telecommunications industry ranks right up there with banks and the plastic card industry regarding customer service. The only time I've ever received good service from either is when its going to result in a hit on their bottom line.

What ticks me off is that the very first person I talked with SHOULD have known about the service issue as it was reported to them (Frontier) at least 7 hours before I called...but no, they could tell me nothing. I cannot wait for my contract to end this fall.

I have Frontier and yes they are very bad....my DSl is constantly slower then the advertised price. our phone line is out on a regular basis. If I had another choice i would switch in two seconds

I have Frontier and have learned to tolerate them. Here is the secret, give them your credit card number then turn on automatic billing. That makes them happy as they bill $35/mo. for incomprehensible fees/taxes/charges. Want to make a call? Sorry that's extra because "long distance" is across the street. Oh did I mention the line goes dead when it rains? Have given up trying to get them to fix that problem. It's quicker just to wait a few days for the line to dry out!

We moved onto the property in 1982 and built our house. I have a mile long driveway - straight west down the section line. Power went in fine, at the estimated price and the power utility has been fantastic ever since, one of the lowest power rates in the country.
However - here comes the telephone service. Because of on-going legal wrangling at the time (between power & tele) the telephone line could not be hung on the power poles. I would have had to dig a ditch all the way from the paved road to my house. 75% of the distance is basaltic lava requiring a jack hammer on a BobCat or something like that. Bottom line - cheapest estimate in 1982 was $32,000. I WAS IN SEVENTH HEAVEN - no g#d da#n phone - wahoo!! Then along came Motorola and their bag phone. With a large outside whip antennae we could make contact on a good day. Since that time - 1985 - its been one type of cell phone after another. Again - on a good day - standing out on the porch I can get one bar or maybe two. I never rely on the phone for any form of communication. People soon learn that and contact me by email. The strange thing is in the 32 years here, phone service has not improved even one little bit. I'm simply too far out in the sticks for cell service. Folks say - Oh, what a shame. I say - if the situation is truly serious/critical contact the state police and they will drive out and contact me. Works for me.

Just curious - what are you using for internet service? Satellite?

If you have some sort of always-on broadband, you could look at VOIP for phone service. On the other hand, no phone is almost a dream come true!

I think we have a high-tech company providing a high-tech service using a bunch of low-tech brains. Kinda like putting Christopher Columbus in charge of a nuclear submarine.

Mark02tj - yes, my IP has been Hughes Net for the last five years or so. And again, Yes, since hughes net went to Gen 4 the system is supposed to be able to handle VOIP. I'm VERY pleased with the speed and accuracy of Gen 4. Prior to hughes net I had Starband and at my location Starband was very affected by changing weather. I have no desire to improve my phone service. Internet email is more than adequate.
