I love frog legs, but rarely get to eat any, too much poaching going on.

I can tell you this, the wild bullfrogs I shot, skinned and prepared myself were a heck of a lot better tasting than the mushy, tasteless things I have had in restaurants called frogs legs.

James, we have a local restaurant that serves frog legs and I can't eat them. We have several ponds, but people sneak in before the season begins and clean us out.

Yeah, that is why people keep poaching your frogs. The ones in the restaurant's aren't fit to eat.. At least with my limited experience.

Someone once told me that rattlers are evolving to not rattle anymore due to hogs getting them.

Urban legend?

Not sure about the evolution theory but it's a fact they don't always rattle. They don't always coil up and get all snakey either, sometimes they just keep on trucking and ignore you. Still creep me out no matter what they're doin'. :irked:

We have already had a bad year here. They started coming out about 4 weeks ago. My in laws live next door. The FiL has had to use the boom stick on 8 rattlers so far this year.

I don't know how you guys do it. I see a 4 inch snake up here in Maine and I scream like a little girl.

We make an effort down here to refrain from screaming unless they are of the "fangy" variety. We have a lot of the benign ones. The water moccasins and copperheads do get our attention.. I have never seen a live rattler in the wild around here, but I know we have them. But if we screamed at every snake we see, we would be doing a lot of screaming.

Now our cats have been bringing in baby brown snakes. Kill you venemous and cranky of nature. Very nerve-wracking trying to extract one from my daughter's jacket that was heaped on the ground.

Snakes don't hear so good so calling for help works. Also, they see movement so freezing also works. At least on our snakes.

97% of people who get bitten are trying to kill the snake.

All our wildlife is protected by law.

Not poisonous, but welcome...we had our first black snake of the year in our barn yesterday, just hanging over the door as I walked in. This has become a spring time tradition - same snake in the same place every year.

Time to load up with snakeshot.
What is 'snakeshot'?

We have 17 species of snakes up here, but only one is venomous. The Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake.

All of our snakes are protected. I have never seen a rattlesnake in the wild, other than on TV and in movies.

Occasionally in the summertime we get snakes in the dug well. I just take the lid off the well and with a big dull fishhook on some 20lb test line I fish them out. Then let them go into the ditch.
