Also, does anyone remember Ford's "park to reverse defect" ? It involved Fords made from 1966 to 1979 and killed 98 people. Ford's "fix" was mailing the owners a warning label.

Even a hot mug of coffee can kill, if you pour it all down the wrong throathole at once... Cant fix stupid.Much like picking up a firearm, both can kill you if you are stupid.
We constantly strive for absolute safety in these autos and with more and more safety features comes more malfunctions, more recalls and more money. Remember there is no price limit for safety....or is there?
Even airbags are not fool proof... my 90 year old neighbor was badly injured as a passenger from airbag deployment... her friend had taken her shopping and didn't see a 4" pipe post when he was leaving the parking spot... instead of backing out he went ahead and it was just enough to deploy...
A neighbour told me that a coworker hada fairly new BMW. He hit a pole and the airbags went off, the whole bunch of them: Thus blasting through the steering wheel, dashboard, door panels and the pedestrian airbag damaged something too. The repair costed 12.000, of which 1500 was for the busted bumper, the rest collateral airbag damage.
