Oh my word! Those are horrendous!
Oh my word! Those are horrendous!
Saw the (just) aftermath of a single coil load (the semi trailer was completely empty after the coil dismounted) hitting the Ohio turnpike. It pulverized the concrete roadway. Can see it in my minds eye as plain as day some 30 + years later. Luckily, only the roadway was harmed.
I used to fly Steel Coils out of Gary Indiana in airplanes. They scared the crap out of me. I would throw every strap I had on them but if one let go in a airplane I would have been a greasy spot on the earth somewhere.

An airplane experience. Not scary, just funny and unexpected -
Long ago (1967) I caught a DC-3 from Ipiales (southern border town of Colombia) to Bogota. But things are a little random there, and there wasn't a seat for me until 'maybe tomorrow'.
I saw a second plane accompanying the first one. They said it was cargo only. I insisted, they said ok take that one if you really want to travel today. Turned out I was alone in the back of an unheated very cold plane. The airline seat was the ordinary kind but it was only one, with the rest of the space for cargo. ... My fellow travelers were all frozen whole sides of beef.
