There is no need to buy "fresh" fuel. Diesel is very stable and as long as it is not contaminated with algae or something else, it's fine. I had a batch of fuel that was about ten years old and ran it with no problems, then I was given a batch of old heating oil that was far older than that and ran it all through my Mercedes. No problems. The idea that you should get the freshest fuel from a station that sells the most is way over the top.
As far as adding something for lubricity to save your engine. Gary has it right. Two stroke oil won't hurt, but I'd like to see someone prove it actually prevented a failure.
Now, gasoline is another story.
