An Accident Can Happen To Anyone.

Did anyone notice the first guy was giving a safety speech while driving the JD around with the ROPS folded down?

Exactly what I was thinking! I see people doing that all the time and I just don't get it.

I know I have to lower mine to put it in a stall, if you are on flat ground I don't see a problem.....don't wear your seat belt.

Lots of people have been killed/maimed on flat ground. Brush hogging and a front tire hits a rock just right, instant flat, and the tractor rolls....stuff like that. The studies they've done say the typical roll happens in half a second....too fast to jump clear.

I agree, but you don't know the situation that occurred during that clip. He may just have been pulling the eqt out of the barn for the camera shot. I have to lower my rops to pick up skids, or I will take out my roof........again.:banghead:

Got my warning decades ago ripping 2x4 freehand with skilsaw. Short version dont wedge up the blade guard and dont put hand under the saw. Felt a little tick on my finger the saw flipped up a flap of skin but not enough to do real damage. Got in a hurry did two dumb things at same time. From that day to this never made those mistakes again.

1. I have this thing about clicking on a link to someplace without any explanation at all about the gist of the link. Won't do it.

2. I have this thing about anyone telling me what I should do or what is important when it comes to safety. I am a person of reasonable intelligence and learned caution before I was a teenager. If you need the reminder, good. Don't tell me I need it.

3. I have this character flaw, I'm a curmudgeon. ;)

No, I wasn't there, but you would think that with a staged shot, for a piece on safety, they'd go the extra mile and put the ROPS up. I also somehow doubt that on a farm of that size they don't have someplace that the tractor will fit with the ROPS up, but that's certainly possible.

Around here I run with the ROPS down while mowing as the ground is perfectly flat in 99% of the area I mow. But when using the FEL for anything bigger than tree debris, the ROPS gets locked up. Know what? Given the size and weight of my tractor, I think if I did end up in a rollover situation and the ROPS was down and I wasn't belted in, I doubt if I could react fast enough to escape being squeezed.
