I just bought a Toro Super Recycler 3 in 1 (mulch, rear bagger and side discharge). Rear wheel drive self propelled, electric start, she's sweet but I haven't used it yet. Last summer I did try my FIL's which is almost identical, Toro gets my vote.

Were on our second Honda mower in about 15-20 years. First one we had (still have, but the deck is basically shot, now reserved for rough duty) was self propelled but fixed speed. Last year we bought one of the new Plastic deck self propelled with the hydrostatic varriable speed. Its amazing. This is our second hydrostatic honda, our 938 blower is also hydrostatic. Yes they are expensive, but its hard to beat a Honda.

About 90% of all push mower brands have the same parent company, MTD. You can Google it and get all the brand names that they own. Just get one with the features you want and at the price you are willing to pay. Almost all use Briggs engines in the small push mowers. I have an MTD push mower (Craftsman) with grass catcher that was given to me that I have had for 10 years. It gets little use but will crank on 2-3 pulls even after setting for 3-4 years. I try to always run the carbs dry when storing it. I had another one that was at least 15 years old and mowed my small yard weekly and still cranked and ran well. It would smoke a bit on initial start up but ran and cut good. I gave it to my daughter in law when I got the other one and she still uses it.

Always the best tip! Or use stabil at a minimum, running the carbs always seems to prevent any problems with starting/storing small engines.

We got one of the Honda electric start rear self propelled mowers from Home Depot last year and really like it. Runs well, and cuts great. the only negative is it does not have the strongest suction for bagging but does seems to get all the grass so it is not bad by any means.

Guys, self-propelled lawn mowers are not push mowers until they break down.

Disagree!!! Lots of times I disconnect the front drive on my self propelled mowers to get speeds faster or slower than what is provided. Something I find irritating is the slow, slow self propelled mode on self propelled mowers, I want to move at 3.5 mph rather than the 2.5 mph they come with so I jack up the speed by bending the tabs on the carb, etc. I have one older Yard-Man self propelled that will go 4.5 mph and it's a good workout to follow it....
