I love that video!! It was on news this morning. I've seen very few crits that I don't like, cats included. And the love is reciprocated: when our daughter was young, one time at friend's house who had crits, the crits just came over to me. Me daughter said, "Dad, things like you!". Hehehehee, yep I like things too.

Judging from the three different angles, I'd say it came from a 24/7 security cam set up. Barring that, they must be the world's best animal trainers.

Yep, the article says this was from their security cameras. The mom had her back turned watering a tree.

There were interviews of the mother and the little boy with the cat, as much as you can interview a 4 year old and a kitty. For you non cat owners, I could tell that the cat was very devoted to the little boy, because the way he was "petting" it which is common in small children is NOT the way kitties like to be petted, but the cat tolerated it because they actually realize that it is a small child rubbing their fur the wrong way.

I am sure you have witnessed this child and dog interaction before, where a dog will tolerate being "mauled" by a small child because the child is a member of its "family". Cats that are socialized to a family are no different. Now not all cats are like this, and I have had long-term pet owners tell me that they cannot interact in a positive loving way with their pet at all. I guess the pet just doesn't like the owner for some reason. But our cats do interact with us in a positive way, and enjoy being petted or brushed with their "kittie brush" and they enjoy spending time with us.

For some reason, a lot of people think cats are "cold" and "standoffish" and never show love for their owners, and I suppose this is true in some, perhaps many instances but I can assure you if the cat is well socialized to its "family" they are as warm, loving creatures as any dog.

have 2 cats that sleep on my chest at night ( they take turns trying to suffocate me :laughing the other one sleeps at the foot of the bed or on the rocking chair in the room .... all will come when called for food , all will ignore me if they are otherwise engaged .... all will let me know when they want petting ( or not ) .... as stated above , they match dogs in "family" and can be just as protective.
