Another Win For GM's HD's

Coming from a GM guy, I have to admit, that's pretty sad. Poor journalism, in my opinion. No telling what the condition of either of the older trucks was. But hey, if it's on the internet, it has to be true, right? :)
I didnt even think of condition, good point. I mentioned to him that a repeat with the 2015 MY Ford/Dodge offerings would be interesting especially since Ford changed the torque converter for 2015 along with bumping the power.
He also commented that "As for handling, the Sierra and F250 both handled the trailer (and crosswinds) exceptionally well, but the Ram was a handful."

I don't have a problem believing that at all...in fact, I KNOW they do. I drive an '08 6.4L Ford...it's fuel mileage is less than stellar.

What I DO have trouble believing is these guys that chip their diesel and then brag about how they are pulling down nearly 30 MPG empty and 22+ MPG loaded with 10k lbs behind them. I've heard several of those stories, and I know they are full of crap!

However, I will put the newest offerings from the big 3 against anything from 20 years ago for towing. I think the new DPF engines have resolved most of the issues of the early DPF engines and they are making incredible power while still getting great fuel economy. I'm sure an older Cummins 12V can still come close or match the new engines for mileage, but there's no way it can out-tow one of the newer diesels. It just ain't gonna happen unless it is crazy tuned putting out gobs of torque. Still, I would take the modern engine for safety of the engine, as well as the driver.
I guess we will just have to agree to disagree. The older Cummins motors without all the emissions and computer crap will get better mileage than any of the new diesels. Even the 04 motors got better mileage than the 05-06 models. I've owned a 96, 04, 11, and now an 07. The newer the truck the worse mileage from my experience. That is why I traded my 11 in for an 07 mega cab with the last of the 5.9 motors. I loved the power of the 11 but it got 12 MPG. That does not work for me. My 07 gets 12-14 towing and 18-22 the rest of the time depending on the situation. As far as power that just depend what has been done to the motor, in stock configuration the new models are much more powerful than the old ones but he old ones have more potential to tune.

I would actually say if they got rentals that makes it more fair, that way no manufacturer slipped them a ringer.

If the GM was also a rental, which I doubt it was. I'm sure GM said, here, try out our new truck and handed them the keys.
