A few years ago (maybe 6 or 7) I bought a little tag along equipment trailer for my smallest tractor.
16 ft bed plus 2 ft tail, 10K rated, just about enough for a little Kukje 42 HP tractor with an implement and loaded tires.
Bahh, a few weeks ago it lost a dust cap off an axle end, no big deal except that they are a little unusual, so I called the dealer I bought the trailer from, they assured me that they had them in stock, etc.
They are about 40 miles away, so I asked them to send a couple, they wanted to SEE the trailer or at least see a similar dust cap (ODD ???).
I resolved to pull a cap off and put this on my destinations list for motorcycle rides.
The caps are marked LCI (Lippert Component Industries), but are not on their web site.
"Top Brand" trailer company seems to have vanished, but had existed in WV )-;
Last week I got around to a bike ride in the dealer's general direction, the cap I took was totally foreign to everyone at the dealership.
I got back and noticed that there were no grease fittings on the two axle ends that the dust caps were off. Weird, they are drilled and tapped.
Yesterday I bought a couple of standard steel dust caps and a package of grease fittings from NAPA.
I installed the fittings and shot grease through all the bearings - I feel a bit better.
Ahhh, but those LCI dust caps don't go all the way ON with the grease fittings in the axle ends.
These are VERY LOW PROFILE dust caps, a bit fancy with O-rings.
So if anyone ELSE has these low profile black plastic dust caps with LCI embossed on them BEWARE, you may not have grease fittings.
I know, I know, I SHOULD have found this years ago - the feeble excuse is that the trailer gets very little use (-:
At least I did it before any bearings seized for lack of grease.
