Hard to tell from this grainy night video, but what's your best guess as to how much this guy (?) weighs-- or how old "it" is given the size? The rims of the garbage cans are 28 inches off the ground.

Just a guess...350 to 450#

I guess it's a good thing I didn't go barging outside when I heard it rummaging around!

Given the bear's size and the fact that it's obviously survived multiple hunting seasons, leads me to believe it's a pretty cautions critter.

Hmmm...

Given the "pros" assessment doesn't make nearly as good a story, I'm sticking with the weight estimates posted here! :)

>>We checked with New York DEC (Department of Environmental Conservation) biologists and based on the video, they estimated that this bear might be around 175 pounds!

Just a guess...350 to 450#

Having one similar on the wall I'd say he is about 325 live weight and would dress out about 260.
Remember "a fed bear is a dead bear" Take all food sources away so he goes elsewhere for dinner.

"a fed bear is a dead bear"

Similar to the sentiments I expressed to my wife who wanted to feed it in order to get some better video.

I'd say around 320-350.

175 lbs. seems light. Our male dog is 28" at the withers and he weighs 140-150 lbs.--depending on how much we hold his feed down. That bear has to be around 35" at the withers if the can rims are 28". A bear has a lot more heavy bone and muscle on it than a dog I think.
