Nightmare senario...lost my oil plug and oil

You could take it out to the nearest woods and cut down a big tree. Like in the State Farm ad you're only human. The tree just happened to fall on your BX. Wasn't there a post on here not too long ago about a tree falling on a tractor? It's not impossible. That way an innocent buyer won't get burned.

Sure. And then instead of unloading the tractor on some poor unsuspecting buyer, you can get yourself brought up on charges of insurance fraud. :confused2:

Man, talk about bad advice going from bad to worse.

I would trailer the tractor to Tijuana Mexico and sell it there.

That's just hilarious! Hey, I liked your other post to my post as well....you're funny and have wise words Stanton!

I'd stay the heck out of that place though dude! Have your buddy sell it there then split it if he comes back...if not, it was stolen!

If I were this poor guy though...I'd baby it and run it till it dies then replace the motor. Bad juju sucks and good juju is awesome!

Yep, I couldn't handle the Karmic load, besides, I love my tractor!

I had another thought: Donate the tractor to a charity and take the tax write-off.

Great thread with a good discussion. I once had the oil filter on my 8N dump all the oil after the gasket was pinched--my fault. It ran for a number of minutes before I shut it down and figured it out. Anyway, I wasn't smart enough at the time to even suspect I damaged anything and just kept using it as though nothing happened. Many years and many hours later still no problem and I sold it 10 or so years later when I moved. I suspect modern oils--especially synthetic--are far tougher than we realize. Just my two cents here.

Not sure how many of you worked on older engines. Our 51 Chev did not have an oil pump for bearing lube. It had dippers on the ends of the bearing caps that dipped into the oil to feed the crank. No bearing halves - the Babbitt was poured directly onto the caps and rods. My 1928 Case CC out front has no oil to the top end. There's a grease zerk on the rocker shaft and you grease it daily - that's all the rocker arms get.

I'm not saying you don't need oil. I'm not saying Brad didn't shorten the life of his engine. However, I have too much engineering experience with engines this size. This is far from the first one I have heard this type experience. Some have been refilled, cranked up, and go of ages. Some are refilled, cranked up, and sound like rocks tumbling in a cement mixer. This engine sounds like the former. Will love to hear a year from now how it is still going.

One other thing - as engineering manager more than once in my career I had someone from the shop call and tell me the accidentally started an engine with no oil. What should they do. My answer was always scrap it out - not going to have our mistake end up as a customers problem in any way. Not often, but lucky tech schools in our area got the engines for their class work. Nobody ever gave me feedback on how they looked internally. We never salvaged a bit - the entire engine (less accessories we installed) got donated.

Ive done this twice myself. Once on a car and once on a mower. I say its a tractor....fix the drain plug, fill it with oil, drive her till she dies. Then rebuild and repeat.... I do agree with the mojo stuff though. Ive been victim of this stuff before and it stinks. Honesty always pays 3 fold if you trade or sell.

Like I said, the level of damage and consequences can't be predicted.

I'm going to take all the positive posts, print them out, and tape them up in my garage! Long may you run BX! Brad

Question? I am not a mechanic but shouldn't the oil pan and system be vented to atmosphere? So how did it build pressure to blow plug out (post #1)? Or does he have other problems or rubber plug not tight enough. Just trying to build up knowledge. Pat
