My dad has a 1995 B2400 HST was out driving it around and all of the sudden it would not move forward anymore. No unusual noises, reverse works (seems a bit odd though), FEL and 3pt work just fine too. Seen a thread on here a while back that they replaced the HST unit. But, oh my, $2140.00. Ive checked the forword and reverse pressure reliefs and they are in good shape. I ran out of time to check the charge pressure relief though. When I removed the main strainer unfortunately there was a bunch of metal stuck on the outside :vomit:. Fluid did not look that bad though with no obvioust metallic particles floating in the fluid. Fluid was a bit darker than normal but not terrible.

Ive got the WSM and there isnt much troubleshooting as for real in depth checks.

Anyone with any other advice is greatly appreciated and what to check next. How difficult is it to split the tractor to remove the HST unit.

Oh, and do members get any discount at all on parts like I do other forums Im on.

Thx for everyones input.

Ive split my B2400 3 times.

Once to pull the hydro and rebuild it.

Second time because I forgot to install an O ring from the first time.

Third time just a couple weeks ago to replace the chewed up charge pump that I didnt do during the first time.

Took me the better part of a weekend to split and put back together each time, no hurry.

Each time had plenty of metal built up on the strainer.

Wonder if I should just bite the bullet and get the whole hydro unit then. Its sickening to say the least because I just sold it to my Dad and I already bought my Boomer 35.

Did you figure out where the shavings were coming from?

I purchased my B2400 broken, tractor had been split at a dealer and came with a box of parts. I found that it had suffered a catastrophic hydro failure. The
owner that i purchase the tractor from said that actually still worked with the bad hydro unit.

So I still get some metal from that failure on the screen. Ive put over 200hrs on the tractor with no problems, works really well.

My other tractors get a light coating of metal on the screen when its time for there fluid change, it just a normal part of running a tractor.

I know you checked the forward and reverse relief valves. I would check the charge pressure, that could tell you the overall condition of the hydro itself. If you get reverse but no forward, sounds like a stuck or broken forward relief valve.

I physically pulled them out and they are fine. But you mention stuck, and it was a bit harder to push the forward PR valve out. I've had to work all weekend and my next step is to pull the charge relief valve. Thx for your input and helping so far.

If I have to split the tractor I should have no problem doing it all in1 day.

I have heard the term but really do not know what splitting the tractor is all about.

Well, bittersweet news. I checked the charge valve, that is OK too. I pulled the HST drain valve and 2 rollers from one of the bearings fell out. Going to safely assume pieces are stuck in the valve body circuit allowing no flow for forward. So, time to split the tractor.

BTW, spring1802, its when you remove the rear half of the tractor from the front half. Typically done to replace a clutch.

I got the tractor split apart and the HST unit had a bearing fail and the forward/reverse drive pump. It took out the shaft, charge pump, and a bunch of other parts that would be $1800. Looks like I will be replacing the whole unit. BTW splitting the tractor was really not that bad. The link arm that connects to the forward/reverse pedal was a PITA though.
