Check out the mx5100 Kubota as well as the m5640sud.
Thanks. The mx5100 was on my radar, the m5640sud wasn't, so I'll look into both in more detail.

If you are fortunate enough to have a Yanmar dealer look at the Lx490. Very capable machine premium features and especially the power reverser lets you work a lot like a HST without the power loss. Load the tires and go
Thank you. We get a fair amount of Yanmar engines here and some diggers/excavators but I don't think there is a tractor distributor here. The power reverser tranny sounds interesting. I'll look it up. I think I have read that JD have it on some models also.

Should a Kioti DK55 be on the 'investigate further' list?

Thanks.
Is there anything different between the 50XXE models other than the fuel delivery? I ask more out of curiosity than actually needing more HP. There were guys here swapping out a few parts and getting way more HP on some of their tractors (mostly the day after the warranty ran out) - but I can't recall the specific makes or models they were doing this with.

Typically, you would be talking about changing injectors, (and maybe the pump) and a bigger turbo.
Probably be cheaper to buy the next size up in HP to begin with.

You need to get some seat time at the dealers and check them both out. you will know when you find your machine. I did.

Thank you.
Have you experienced:

- coolant or air hose leaks
- overheating of hydraulics when operating the 3PH or SCV
- condensation buildup on the instrument panel glass
- anything else?

I'm very interested in models that have been around a while and problems known and corrected. I don't mind problems if not major or the sort to appear just after the warranty runs out, as long as they are known ones and the dealers can look out for 'em and know what to do or look for if something goes wrong.

Thanks again. I have to admit the Indian origin of these tractors does bother me, but I figure if JD after sales is good enough or the dealers good enough to address known issues before the tractor is delivered, then that will be fine.
Coolant leaks before 50 hours at hose clamps yes. The rest of your list no. I have managed to blow the packing on the rock shaft piston by hooking onto a big log that was solidly frozen into the ground and snowpack using the 3ph drawlinks in a raised position. Totally my fault. I'm working on the repair now.
I would not be as worried about the tractors point of origin as some are. The Pune India plant has been there for a decade and its engineering and quality control are state of the art. They are not just repainting some other brand and applying stickers that say JD on them. The numbers have changed of course but the 5000 series three cylinder design has been around a long time and they have most all the bugs worked out but because there are so many of this class made you will hear a story now and then.

will be doing just that in a week or so's time when they are all in the same place at a huge trade show. Just hoping to narrow down the selection while leaving enough time for a wildcard or two if any surface at the show.

I've been on the very rough end of the QC stats myself recently so perhaps I'm paranoid now. NZ is starting to import a fair amount of product from so-called 'emerging markets' and the QC is so much more of a lottery than more established (at least from NZ's experience) manufacturing origins. I've spoken with professional mediators who allude to this fact. It's certainly keeping them busy.

That said, I'm not totally against product from such origin. It's just one more thing on the list to scrutinise. I don't think any product of any origin through any dealer network backed by any regional distributor supported by any head office is going to tick all the boxes.

If you haven't already looked at them, I absolutely love my PTO logging/skidding winch. Pull small logs without loading the 3PH too much, has a small blade to back up to logs and nudge them free if need be. Worth every cent. Would buy it again in a heartbeat.
