Big prices for little tractors

Well all I know is I sure did like my old Yanmar. That thing started every single time always did everything I asked it was a real workhorse I could not bring myself to sell it even after I had replaced it with a brand-new fancy bobcat ct. Finally I decided to let it go just because the new tractor had so many creature comforts like power steering and hydrostat trans and easier to get on and off of. But I tell you that old Yanmar was an amazing machine don't think there's too many like them today. It was always fun to see the look on peoples faces when I was lifting something or pulling something much larger than the tractor looked like it would lift. In my opinion they're worth more money

A friend went down to the BarNone auction last month in SoCal and there were
several new-looking Yanmars up for bids. They were mostly older models with
rice paddy tires and new loaders. No ROPS grey-mkts, it seems.

These are a bit bigger, but went for about $5K each, before taxes and fees. Not
too bad. YM1401, YM1610, FX16

As for the Bay Area CraigsList, there are some listed, but not selling.

I've read up on the whole Yanmar lawsuit issue regarding the grey market machines and it sure appears that the main reason was a couple of lawsuits against Yanmar involving roll-over deaths as the grey market machines did not come with ROPS. Apparently the Japanese farmers are much smarter than their American counterparts as don't operate their tractors on the side of hills or stick their hands into rotating equipment...and I'm just guessing here, but their country is probably also not full of blood sucking ambulance chasing attorneys. Here is the link to a good read on the subject History

I did not click it but hovered my mouse on it and saw it was from fredericks site, most of us here have read everything on the lawsuits and i think the article your linking to showed up recntly here in the last part of a year when the decision was made to allow fredericks the ability to continue on with the greys.

i dont consider the 1401 and 1610 to be larger tractors...maybe compared to the 1300 or 1100?

The OP was referring to the 2-cyl Yanmars; these are 3-cyl and somewhat bigger.

Yea i did not even pay attention to the xx01 or xx10 series but they still are not that big of a tractor, but like i said if the OP was referring to the next smaller platform tractor than yes these are a little larger

I opted to go with Fredricks. I could not find any JD, MF, NH within 200 miles that wasn't old and beaten needing something. My JD850 was given to me by a good friend. BUT, the shop that did the overhaul mess up the engine so bad that it only ran for less than 30-hrs and died. Of course this was over a year, so the shop would not honor anything. So, There it sat. I searched high and low for donor engines, heads, parts, etc. Fredricks came up as a parts place. By the time I added up the rebuild cost and labor, getting a Fredricks Import Yanmar Gray restore from the ground up was by far cheaper. So, just under a shavings of $6K delivered to my door, the YM2610 with PowerShift was the replacement. It even has the same engine the JD850 had. But this engine runs smooth and starts easy.

If I had to do it all again, Fredricks would be a first call.

Here's one in my neck of the woods, a YM202 with front loader. $5K.

Yanmar 2020 tractor w/ front end loader Nashville area.

Yanmar YM1500 tractor 17 hp diesel $2K YM1500

Yanmar 2000B 22 HP With Box Blade $2,500 YM2000B (rice tires)

YANMAR YM2000 DIESEL TRACTOR $2,500 YM2000

Yanmar 2500 tractor $3,750 YM2500 (this may be a good deal as it's really a JD850 in red paint!!!)
For my needs, the YM2500 or a higher number can do so much more than the smaller Yanmars. Just the 30+Hp alone is a benefit. The tractor size is respectable and 3pt lift arms are more manageable for implements.
