o and honda ARE far superior then a B&S engine,

ive nicknamed briggs briggs and crappin. i think its rather catchy myself..

i also forgot to mention, kohler or kawasaki on the walk behind..

if youre stuck on a push mower, having a self propelled makes high wheels obsolete.

this being the case, honda is the best way to go for a push mower. trust me.

if you dont want to go honda for a push mower, get something with a subaru or kawasaki engine on it. briggs and crappin wont last.

Hi from a new member.

Last June I bought a new Hi Wheel grass cutter with B+S engine.
June - Oct No Problems.
This year it has been in for repairs 6 times in 5 weeks.
1st time a spring in the carburetter (don't ask me - I only drive the thing) snapped.
2nd + 3rd times because the mechanic hadn't fixed something to do with said carburetter properly.
4th time the little bar(?) that connects the handle bars to the chassis snapped. It was in for almost a week for this.
5th because the apprentice hadn't connected the whell drive when he did the previous repair. Why was an apprentice doing this unsuppervised?
6th the spring in the carburetter has snapped.
All very well, but it is nearly 1hrs drive each way for me to get this repaired and I have to pay for the labour as that doesn't come under the guarantee.

I love B + S engines. For 20yrs when I was farming in UK I never had a problem. Here (in France) the attitude is "Well? They can't sack me so I'll give the customers s@^t and then some". I know this is not a B+S fault. It's the damned French atitude.

MOH has just returned from the Repair Shop.
Apparently the cause of most of my problems (apart from the chassis) is there's no compression so it needs a new engine. Never had that with a B + S engine beore.

Sounds like you need a new repair shop more than you need a new mower.

All the work they did on that mower in 5 or 6 trips to the shop, and they just now noticed there no compression? :confused2: :duh:

Nah! This is FRANCE.
1) it's illegal to sack anyone so they can get away with murder and the customer can't do a thing about it.
2) I bought it from them and it's still under guarantee so they "have to" fix it.
3) Most French will only sort the problem that is told to them - they never look for an underlying problem - so I told them a spring was broken, they fixed the spring. I didn't tell them about the compression so they didn't look for it.
4) Although it's nearly 1hr each way it just happens to be my nearest as well. The next nearest is over 1+1/2hrs each way.
