Bought a new home; not sure the septic tank has ever been pumped

Yes, but how does a washing machine cause plastic particle pollution in these examples? Still confused.
Nylon , rayon and polyester synthetic fabrics are really forms of plastic. The lint washed out of them and cotton synthetic blends that contain them are just tiny pieces of plastic fiber.

Interesting. Thanks for the heads up on the plastic particles; I'll look into a solution for that. Does anyone else have their washing machine just bypass the septic field altogether?

I have a filter on the discharge line of my washer to catch lint and such coming off the clothes. Read once that enough lint comes off a families typical washer in a year to carpet a home. Doubt if that's true, but it ain't good for the field so I use the filter. It does catch a lot of stuff.

We just got a new washer/dryer as our daughter just moved into a new condo and needed a set. Our were 7 years old but in good condition.

It a LG brand and it has a built in filter on the discharge before the pump that must be periodically cleaned. I don't suppose that they would do that unless particles were going down stream.

Considering how much a dryer lint filter catches on one load, there is stuff.

OK, that makes sense! Aside from a few items of ladies' undies that get washed by hand, we don't have any synthetic clothing or fabrics in the house so I couldn't figure that one out. Thanks for the clarification!

I've put many a nylon stocking over the discharge line... in several months the stocking is needs to be changed because it will no longer drain.

Yes mine goes to the floor drain system and out to daylight in the woods.

In some regions the soil perk is so poor this is about the only practical option but not spec in many regions either.

It is important that it is "Your Woods" and has no chance to reach a neighbors.
