EcoDiesel, A Maiden Voyage

I merged onto a freeway and you could really tell that it runs out of steam in passing gear. Don't get me wrong, it has plenty of power for a half ton but when compared to the ecoboost with the exact same torque and 125 more HP, the acceleration is noticeably less.

On a side note, the salesman who road with me misquoted the HP and torque numbers. He also said this engine is used in a Case tractor which I could not conform or deny. I asked how they were selling and he said there was a lot of buzz when they first came out but not so much lately. I expected this truck to be front and center but we had to search for it on a satellite lot. This dealership has sold 3 so far and is one of the largest in the Midwest. In fact the Ram express model is named after this dealership.

Well, my company ordered a a brand new Ram 1500 for me. Don't have it yet, but I'm fairly sure it's same as the loanner 4x4 Hemi I've been driving. Would be nice if it was the 3.0L. Any websites list sales by year by engine? I would be curious to see how many Eco--boost Fords have sold. I would consider a used one, in a a couple years, but I don't know how many there where compared to the other motors.

Not sure of the numbers but I do know that since the Eco Boost came out it's been in 55% of the F150's and Ford has had the best selling truck for 30 plus years so there are lots of them out there.

They don't pop up for sale very often and when they do they sell quick.

Didn't affect me. Still drove it hard. Just told him to hold on. Gave him time to show me how little he knew about his product and keep me from having to stay afterwards to "debrief".

Not sure, but I think both. My tow rating is 11,300# and my GVWR is 7200#

Chris

I know you will figure it out but so far what you have mentioned here doesn't add up. 7200# is one of the lowest forms of a supercrew 4x4 leaving only 1400-1500 payload. It would have neither max payload or max tow. Easy to tell if max tow because of the big mickey mouse mirrors are included and exclusive to it. You earlier mentioned payload of 2300# which would require both packages and give you around 8200 GVWR. Without the towing mirrors your towing capacity would be 1600# less than the 11,300# you mentioned as well. Door sticker will display the discrepancy.

If the company were picking up the tab, why wouldn't you prefer the hemi? I assume they are buying the fuel as well right?

I have the big mirrors and according to the little door sticker my truck has 1820# of payload. It also has LT tires, 275-65-18, instead of P tires like I see so many with.

I was getting the 2300# of the sales brochure, not my actual truck.

Big mirrors = Max tow

LT tires Doesn't necessary equal Max Payload. Max payload will have a GVWR of 8200 lbs and have 17" -7 lug wheels. I don't think you have the max payload option because it also requires the 6.5 bed with the supercrew and I don't think it is available with the FX4 package. I don't have the max payload option either and have a GVWR of 7350 and a payload sticker showing 1835 lbs. I wanted the max payload but didn't want the super stretched 6.5 bed with my supercrew.
