I like the gold tint helmet lense ($7 splurge)

Stopped by Rural King on the way home from work tonight. While I was looking around, I happened to see a Hobart #10 lense in the Gold tint lense.

Thought what the heck for $7 dollars I will try one. All I have ever used is the basic green tint lenses. Installed it in one of my back up helmets. (All I use is old school flip hoods - no auto darkening for me)

Playing around with the Everlast PA-300 tonight. Wow, I can see better and much crisper with the gold tint lense as compared to my other basic green tint lenses. Did some back to back informal testing. I certainly will be buying at least one more gold tint lense for one of my other helmets.

You middle aged guys that do not see as well as you used to in your younger days might wanna try one of those Hobart gold tint lenses. $3.59 for the itty bitty size and $6.99 for the bigger size. I am sure there are even much better lenses out there but this will let you know if it works for yah and if you do not like it then you sure are not out all that much money.

I will have to get one to try as I have the hardest time seeing. I have 2 auto darkening helmets and the cheaper one works better… go figure. I am making an intense bright light as an aid because my problem is I wander off the path I need to weld.

I had the same problem with light that progressively got worse over about 5 years.
Turned out I needed glasses. I now use a cheater lens in my miller elite auto dark (age 43).
Interestingly, in my passive old school lense, I often need no cheater...never noticed the slight clarity differences when my eyes were younger.
My son sees no difference at all between any helmet I have...he's 16.

I started out welding with the green. Then, like u , found the gold tinted with the rose colored arc. It was like night and day over the green. While in trade school i discovered the lincoln super visibility lense. It has a blue arc and u can really see the base metal tie in with the weld!

you gotta be careful with the gold lense, the gold is just a coating on the lense and if it gets the least little scratch on it it will let light through. and yes the lincoln super visiility lense is a great lense.

Thanks for the link. Although some good info my problem is not focus but seeing where I am welding. It is so frustrating to state the weld ok but veer off the needed path. I have a Lincoln auto and just bought a Rino which was a waste of money because even though it has a dial there is no visible difference from 11 down. I need to build a small bright light because using a 500 watt work light in my garage with an outside temp of 95 is sure ****.
