Need recommendations for food vacuum sealer

I know the OP has ordered his, but since no one has mentioned it, We have a Cabella's unit, it weighs about 15# so it must be good right?:laughing: It has served us well for about 5 years now with a lot of use during garden harvest time and regularly during the rest of the year. It's their model that currently is about $400 that can be had for $300 or so on sale.

I don't know that we have ever frozen any berries, but I'm betting that is the way to go. I'd probably put them in a sandwich bag to freeze, then use the food saver. Like I said before, that is how we do our corn. It comes out of the hot blanch water and into ice water, and then onto a cookie sheet and into the freezer. Handling the corn does not present the same problem as berries; you can go directly from the cookie sheet to the food-saver package and they seal up very well...and the corn keeps wonderfully for at least a year; never had any much beond that.

We, right, my wife freezes them (loose) in a flat cookie sheet type pan that has sides. Then we seal them after they're frozen. The same with diced up peppers.

Ditto: We've found slightly freezing anything with liquid moisture works best with our food saver and the cookie sheet is always used as well. An hour in the freezer usually works for us.

The one from Cabelas is the highest rated one in Alaska according to a few sites I read. Since they can be remote and need something dependable, I think that speaks well for the cabelas sealers.

Update, since Eddie asked and I said I would:laughing:

Received the sealer a day early. My wife has been at it, repackaging all the veggies she has blanched so far from the garden. She also is using the Italian made 4ml bags we also ordered (ore-cut, sealed on one end) She is moving a a pretty good clip using the automatic feature, so far, averaging 30 secs a bag.

It is not near as loud as I thought it would be, but not silent. It is just crazy to watch it suck the life out of the bags. Has the 2 year warranty label and the 5 year service contract (included ) AND Totaly repairable, should last a lifetime, which adds allot of value IMO.

Sounds good, Dennis. I never heard of that brand before this thread, but maybe it's worth the cost difference. But so far, no complaints with our FoodSaver. We bought 6 packages of already shelled purple hull peas at the Denton Farmers Market yesterday and packaged and froze 5 of them with our FoodSaver. The sixth package will be for supper tomorrow.
