Sulfur / Rotten Egg Smell in New Deep Well

This is what I am thinking, too. Maybe there's something wrong with the pressure tank. Maybe the first place to start, as it is supposed to function like you mentioned. What's the typical correct pressure on a tank system like this? I have been thinking mine has been low for a while now.

I run my system at 60/40 psi but the pressure is not effecting your water smell. You want your tank to remain about 1/2 full of water and 1/2 air to allow ample contact space for the water. Feel the outside of your tank and you should notice a temperature change indicating where the water level is in your tank. If your air makeup system is not functioning correctly you will notice the tank water level either way to high or too low. Also have some one turn water on at a kitchen faucet while you are at your well and listen to your pump. A properly sized pump and tank should run for at least 1 minute before shutting off and water should continue to flow thru the faucet for 2 minutes before the pump cycles back on.

Chlorinate your well (I can send you a link if you want to know exactly how). Let it sit awhile, then run water through every fixture inside and outside your house (do not wash any clothes other than whites). Let it sit a little more. You should be able to smell bleach throughout the plumbing system.

Also your tank does not need air pressure, it needs air volume. The pressure is set by the pump pressure switch. Your tank should have air all the way down to the air release (AVC) on the side of the tank. If you do not have air down to there then your air-maker bleeder system is not working properly.

An air make-up system on an air over water pressure tank is automatic. The pipe that does down the well has a small bleeder hole and a check valve at the top that lets the pipe fill with air. When the pump kicks on, it shoves air into the pressure tank. There is a bleeder float on the side of the tank that vents air out if there is too much in the tank. It keeps the tank automatically regulated to the correct amount of air. I never thought of it as a way of venting h2s but can see how it might work. I always thought you needed more water surface area for the process to work right.

I had to install City water to cure my sulpher issue. Didnt have a enough volume for a filter system

Sure, send me that link. That would be great. With how long the well was sitting without constant use from when we drilled it until when we started using it daily, I'm sure a good chlorination would be helpful.

I'll check the air bleeder.

Thanks!
