Well it sold tonight for $4800. I had it off and on Craigslist for 6 months or more. Took it to car max who offered $4500 in April of 2013. Had an offer of $4500 Saturday, which I turned down.

Got too thinking about it sunday, and I said screw it, take it to car max and get $4500. Take it up there, and they offer.... $3000.... I should have lubed up... Monday a guy looks at it, asks bottom dolllar, I said $5500, expecting him to offer $5000. But he just said he'd keep looking. Tonight he called back, and asked if I could take less. "Yes". He offer $4500, but said yes to $4800.

I think it's fair, gives him about $3200 to paint and do repairs on transfer case. I still think in good shape, 4x4, 2500hd, extended cab, is worth $8000 in good shape.

Reread by posts, I guess car max had offered $4000 in April. The transfer case rear half was a bit "wallered" out and causes the slip yoke too vibrate. That led to the speed sensor and speed tone wheel not always "jiving".

I also sold the Dodge Dakota 3.9l 2002, extended cab, 2 wd, 189,000 miles, non working AC for $1500 on payments to mother in law. She needed something right then, and I couldn't keep 4 vehicles.

I know how frustrating it is to sell something and have to sit on it for awhile knowing you have a fair price on it but nobody will bite except the lowballers. I was about to sell my tractor to upgrade to a larger one and was about to put it on craigslist and get ready to deal with all the bs that was coming my way. I found a tractor on a farming site that I really liked and emailed the dealer about trading my tractor. Sent him lots of pics, he text me back within 10mins wanting it bad. He offered me $1000 less then I paid for it new 6 years ago. Needless to say I about fell over myself to take that deal! I would have listed it for less and lost money. Live and learn I guess.

Well, it looks like I will be getting the 2002 dodge back in a month. After paying (off and on...) it off, mother in law has been having some problems. The problems (hearing 3rd person) according to her mechanic are stuck valve and shot transmission. They told her not worth fixing, and they're figuring about scrap value for a trade in at a "buy here pay here" place for it.

I have been thinking I'd pay scrap for it just to tinker with; but didn't want to say anything. MIL"s boyfriend actually offered to give it to me after this month; but I'm going to give them $300 probably.

My plan;
Engine: check if valves are really stuck, bent, or good. Cost: next to nothing to check it out and maybe use penetrating oil to free up

Transmission: part of me is pretty sure it's shift solenoids and other minors parts; my dilemma is you can easily get to $200 for parts, plus fluid and filter, and still have issues: or get junk yard you-pull 42RE for ~$300? And go with that.

Part of me would love to go with a 318 and 44re or even a 360 and 46re but realistically I don't have the cash to burn or the skills.

Any advice? I'm no mechanic, but I manage most of the time though busted knuckles, trial not error, and YouTube videos of smarter people then me.
