I haven't driven mine without a plug, But have experience one blowing out, the funny thing was about 1 week prier to talking with someone about the latter model ford engine "blowing out spark plug" issue, I had told him I guess I was lucky that it hasn't happen with my 6.8 v-10, Yet! .............
Then a week later just after having backed my trailer into the driveway of a home, Shut the truck off, Got out and realized I needed to back up further, re-started the truck and POP!-plop-plop-plop- I knew then I had just experience my first plug blow-out,

Why I didn't know? .... It wasn't as if I were running at high rpm's, in fact was just at an idle when it happened,
when I attempt to put it back in I could not do so because the hole was deeply recess and I had no tool to fit,
so I called my wife to come take me to the auto parts to get a new plug and a special deep socket, Once having the correct socket it took less then 5 minutes to put it in and re-attach the coil pack,

about 2 months later I was going through the glove compartment looking for something and ran across a tool, It was a tool that apparently supplied from factory to replace the spark plugs with, I didn't remember having this tool,
Only one time so far in over 168000 miles and I hope never happens again,
I couldn't imagine driving at hwy speeds with a plug out. I think would be worst then not having a muffler
