My dogs killed neighbors chicken

Seems kind of stretch to consider that "trespassing". A responsible dog owner would have either controlled it or restrained it in some way to ensure it didn't attack a visitor. Unfortunately, way too many dog owners don't think their pet can do anything wrong.

Bull. The owner should have had their dog under control. Maybe the neighbor didn't hear the comment, or didn't understand what the OP meant. Again, she wasn't skulking around the yard, she was coming over to introduce herself to her neighbor. No excuse for the dog to attack in a situation like that, none.

If I were the OP I would think long an hard before I ever started a thread on TBN....after the abuse he's taken here. If the neighbors had controlled their chicken and listened to the man when he told the neighbor not to touch or approach his dog...all would be well...both incidents resulted from encroachment on his property...Duh !!!!!

Nonsense. That dog will bite again....and again. The owner condones it and it knows it.

That's speculation...If the OP ever posts again ( I would not blame him if he never did ) then you can ask him about the viciouness of his dog...none of us were there, none of us know the dog or the neighbor...but it all occurred on his property and he made it clear he did not invite the Chicken or the neighbor but in fact warned the neighbor to stay away....I don't see the nonsense....I have never had anyone accuse me of espousing nonsense before...I think I might be offended.... but then again probably not...

I don't know brin,
As a life long dog owner I know if my dog bites someone it can turn into serious legal issues, and really it doesn't seem to matter under what circumstances, be it some idiot sticking their hand in the car window to pet the doggie or stealing a GPS and find a GSD instead the result would be the same. I'd be fighting for my dogs life while watching my life savings drain away. If my dog bites someone I'd better be on very sound legal footing. Legally it's akin to shooting someone.
The op or the dog weren't threatened nor was the dog called to heel (I have my guesses of the why, but won't go into them) and we're really unsure about just how forcefully the op was in telling the friendly neighbor not to proceed any farther.

I agree...we don't have all the facts yet so many on here are so quick to judge him and his dog and some posters have even suggested he have his dog put down...Imagine that....Pets have become members of folks families...in this new era of Smart Phones and Stupid People...

......... he made it clear he did not invite the Chicken or the neighbor but in fact warned the neighbor to stay away.............

What is nonsense is the assertion that a person walking on another person's property in an effort to greet them, with the owner present, is an occasion for a dog to attack. A normal dog barks and looks back to the owner to see if the presence of the intruder is OK. A problem dog just attacks. This dog just attacked.

Have you ever observed how quickly things like this can occur before anyone can react....the neighbor should have heeded the man's warning...the dog is protective and we weren't there to see if the neighbor approached in a rapid manner which the dog perceived as threatening....Not enough information....anyway....I do not have a Dog, Chicken or anything else in this fight...just compassion....so don't get mad at me...and don't go kick a Dog...:)

I had a paper route as a kid in a semi rural area and I got bit plenty of times by dogs like this and heard all the owners' excuses. And when I moved into my present location, there were lots of free running, aggressive dogs, which I took care of. So, I know a lame excuse when I hear one. You are entitled to your own opinion, this is mine.

Especially with new neighbors.
I'm am always surprised at the way some people react to dogs that aren't overly friendly. They seem to take it personally.
Compared to humans dogs are very stupid, they have no manners and a dog's behavior is unpredictable. If someone asks me if my dog bites, I say : "Not yet".
When I encounter a dog that I do not know, I expect him to bite. I avoid dogs I don't know. I never offer my hand to a strange dog and I will not make eye contact with same.
On the other hand, I make every effort to keep my dogs away from people they don't know. My dogs are fenced, or on a leash, or both, at all times. I feel my dogs are my responsibility and I hold myself accountable for their behavior.
I expect a lot from them, and I try to anticipate the worst from them at all times.

How someone can keep a dog and not have a fence is beyond me. What happens when the power goes out or the transponder fails?

As far as the matter at hand goes, The established neighbor has made some mistakes but in my opinion the new neighbor is the culprit here.
Based on the description given....
The new neighbor has little respect for his new neighbor and the sensibilities of same. I see this getting to be a big problem as the established neighbor is handling things poorly. You need to make your expectations known, be direct and be friendly, but do it.
