Canopy Canopy opinions wanted please.

Working with the tractor in the sun gets a little old. Love the seat, but man, it gets hot!
I started looking at the various canopies offered and I'm really liking the RinoHide/Sungard,LLC model.
Any thoughts or experience with this canopy.

Ive been considering a Westendorf cool cap. They are easy to remove or so they claim.

Barlow Equipment put one on my tractor before delivering it. I am not sure what brand - but it was not the Kubota item. A quick phone call to them asking what their 'house' brand is would get you the information. This canopy has functioned well and I highly recommend it.

I to purchase mine from Barlows. They have different brands at different times. Usually 2 big U bolt type clamps that attach to the roll bar at the back part of the canopy.
$300 range I believe.

I have the standard "Kubota" fiberglass/plastic/high dollar canopy on by B7610. Actually am totally happy with it for ONE big reason. It is repairable. Here in the woods of N.W. Georgia there is a lot of different types of trees and low hanging branches that are hard to ignore. Sure as the devil, I forget that the thing is on as I am preoccupied with whatever bucket work or blade I am trying to use to get a job done...........Then wife, hired hand, or my brain kicks into gear and I look up to see a bend in it or a chunk gone from it........the bends pop back into shape and the chunks............chunks,cracks, breaks are totally fixable with some fiberglass cloth and resin.......Then orange paint and off I go again......Rolled the tractor off a bank by leaving the brake off..........the top broke into perhaps 5 main pieces........A couple hours of work and wahhhh freakin lah..........good as new.....

Anyway, glad I have it for the simple repairable reason..........WORKS for me.........God bless.........Dennis

I've been using the RhinoHide canopy for a couple months now. It does what it is supposed to do, keeps the sun off. A good canopy at a reasonable price.

I like your steel canopy, too. What would you estimate it's thickness at, 1/8" (I'm not good with the "guages" of steel, as they translate into inches).

How heavy is it? And if you do not know, the reason I ask is, I've heard the Kubota, 'glass canopies are so heavy, that one (average) man won't be able to stand them back up, if they've folded them down, which I will have to do, to get into three of my four garage/barn doors.

And while I can see another poster's point about repairability of a 'glass canopy, steel is pretty forgiving, too, once presented with a BFH, and/or welder, etc...., so I feel that repairability might not be the deciding factor, for me.

Can anyone comment on what would happen when it's time to drop the canopy, to get into my garage, and I've got the backhoe mounted (backhoe will clear the ceilings--canopy will not).

For me, with the Kubota plastic/glass unit, I installed it by myself and have taken it down, off, folded, and removed the thing for repairs and getting into a barn/shed to clean out goat poop on a pretty regular basis.......I am 68, arthritic (100% VA disabled), and though in pretty good health am not just out pulling buses down the road with my teeth...................BUT.......Yes, the thing is cumbersome, not heavy, but of a size, shape, and mass that is hard to manipulate......VERRRRRY doable for me.....

Not even pushing the Kubota stuff, just because I have it.......there is LOTS of stuff out there that will and can meet your needs. Really, NONE are better than the other. Mrs. D. gave me mine for a Christmas gift and I am not one to look at horse in the mouth and kick it out. So......for me, it's what I have, am glad to have it, and yes, it has the merits of being able to be repaired, again and again, and again and then the repairs themselves.................God bless......Dennis

I have the Wells Ag canopy on our Kubota B2710 and it is aluminum, not steel.

Works well but, does attract low tree limbs.

The seats do get quite hot on Kubota tractors - especially the ones with non-folding seats.

I took an old bath towel, folded the top over about 8", and ran a seam, that was as wide as the seat. down the fold. Then turn the towel inside out and it slips over the back of the seat. Then a bungee cord was used to secure the towel acrosswhere the seat sections come together. No more steaming butt...at least from the hot seat.

My canopy is steel, but as noted above they make an aluminum version. BUT I don't think you will be able to let it down and stand it back up by yourself. I have never tried it, but I doubt you could. It is pretty heavy. I am sorry I cannot give you a gauge or weight. Fairly thick and pretty heavy. It is not 1/8 inch thick but it is not flimsy either. Three of us put it on. Me the salesman and his lovely wife. Of course I have no idea how stout you are or what you would consider heavy. I would imagine a call to Wells AG would get some figures on the gauge of the steel or Aluminum and the respective weights of each. Sorry I cannot be of more help.

I have hit a few small limbs with the canopy, with no damage to the canopy. But they were like 1 1/2 inches or less so I am not saying it would not "wad up" if you hit something substantial.

I have the same top as a few others here use, held on with 4 large U-bolts. Its pretty darn heavy, so I put in some bolts with a jam-nut on the ROPS hinge point to keep it from moving when in use. Ive hit limbs with it, so far it has held up well.

TexasBoy do you think you could let it fold down and get it pushed back up?. You maybe could on that Kubota, but my Kioti hinges down at the fender level, and the ROPS itself is a chunk to throw back up, I am not sure I could swing the whole thing back up or let it down safely. Fortunately I don't have to, it fits thru the barn door with inches to spare.

Hello Folks, Thanks for the input and experience with the options. I really like the formed/color orange canopies but my practical/cost/functional guide keeps me focused on the Rhino. If I was bringing my BX to cruise night at BassPro, yes, I'm def liking the glass/alloy units.
But, I'm thinking that with the poly unit, function 1st, cost 2nd, and it'll do the job.
Maybe, put a vehicle orange vinyl wrap on it to get the color match.

You could probably paint it with the plastic paint.
