Vinyl siding for a shed roof?

Vinyl siding, when installed on a vertical wall may blow off in the strong winds. How can one possibly expect it to remain in place on a near horizontal surface?

Sounds like a not-so-great idea to me. But I live in an area that gets wind, heavy rains and heavy snow.

At least it is not alum- would last a week before some found it. Off to the scrap yard it would go.

I think for cost of vinyl vs some steel I would skip laying your boards and nailing vinyl and silicone by that time in work and cost might as well buy steel...

A product that I have recently used on a shed roof was Ondura roof panels. Sell them at Menards. Pretty cheap, look nice, and they are easy to work with.

Not sure about location but I found a special order of metal roofing from Home Depot cost. me $2.22 a running foot. Oddly the special order price was cheaper than the store shelf price and I had no joints. (FYI)

All of the vinyl siding I have done has weep holes drilled into it to allow any moisture behind the panel to come out. Being vertical water really can't go up into them but at an angle it could. If it's just a shed or garage where a little water isn't going to hurt then I wouldn't worry too much. You could put something under it like tar paper or other roof underlay material. That way the vinyl siding would only have to shed most of the water. Not sure if it would be worth the risk. On my last roof I used a product made by Grace that was extremely thin and light. I think it was something like a 400 sqf roll that you could easily lift with one hand.

We used that to replace some old rusted out ppanels on our shed and it has held up pretty well.

It seems really fragile until you get it nailed in place, but once it's down, it's sturdy and looks good too.

Well, lots of new ideas. Not sure what approach i will take, after all, it is a low priority job. Just planning now. If I use vinyl the weep holes would be covered by silicone
