Everything seems to be working. Not my tractor and it's a mystery how it happened.

My question is "What is the melting point of the dipstick?"

This is why I'm working on a HST temp gauge and warning light.

It's hard to tell from your pic, but I doubt the dipstick handle melted.
The fix might be to install a new fan and a skid plate; there is one already available; others here can tell you where to get one.
A temp gauge could be made from a oil temp probe installed into the HST oil pan, which would monitor and display the HST oil temp on a constant basis, and could be used to establish an acceptable operating range for the fluid.
It might even be able to be done through the dipstick port via a temp thermo-probe from a multimeter, without having to remove and drill a hole in the HST pan.

I would bet that an in line sensor would be pretty easy to do, and they might have one from a different machine. Personally I always hated idiot lights, I want a needle with a background of numbers.

The dipstick did melt. Owner is replacing fan, changing fluid and filter today. I'll update with any new findings after the repair.

So the dipstick is plastic, in addition to the dipstick handle? What about a skid plate?
